Default Lug nuts – McGard, Muteki, Rays?...

I have McGard locking lug nuts and ordered a set of spline drive back in March – apparently McGards plating processor isn’t working or something because the lug nuts are on extended back order…

I’m trying to find an alternative – only in black, black chrome or black anodized – and only some sort of deterrent style (like spline drive)…

So the question is – should I consider Muteki’s spline drive style? Or go with Rays (I think they have a grove in one of the sides)… I can get either of them pretty quick.

Or should I wait for the McGards?

I have commented about Rays lugs over 3 times in as many separate threads.
RAYS LUGS ARE THE WORST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER PURCHASED.
Search my old threads for longer rants. The lug quality is awful, the chuck
quality is even worse, and there is 0 product support. Wrote an email
to mackin - to no avail. Hopefully the formulas are not so awful. I have
only owned the extended version btw.

I ordered a set of black McGard spline drives maybe a month and a half ago. Not sure why you'd have to wait? Try Summit Racing, where I got mine from.

my order is through Summit... McGard's plating process is either down or backlogged so black is on extreme back-order.

I ordered in March - did you receive yours already? Or you've ordered and are waiting too?...

absolutely not.

Try ordering 65454BK.

I've spoken with McGard directly twice... no one has them and they are on extreme back order... they are barely filling orders form Jan and mine is a March order...

Chrome I can get anywhere, but I'm not looking for Chrome...

I think I'm going to have to cancel the McGard order and go with something else... unfortunately I'm leaning towards the black Muteki spline type (which look inferior, but at least they are in stock).

Have them and they are on. I ordered in mid April. I have barely had these wheels on a month and only ordered the lugs only a couple weeks in advance.

Try 65554BK genius, that's what I ordered. Summit says in stock and will ship today. 16 lugs, 4 locks, 2 keys and 4 valve stems for $89. Its $12 more than 65454BK, which I don't even know why you'd order that, that's the 4 lug kit, not the 5 lug kit.

I ordered the 16 piece because I already have 4 locks... I guess I can send back the locks and tell them to send me the whole kit (even though I don’t need or want the valve stems - which is why I ordered the locks and lugs only).

Just called and they have 2 of the 20 pc kits left… Had I known I couldn’t order lug nuts only, I would have got the kit *that has **** I don’t need in the first place…

Anyway – I ordered one of the last 2 – and have to deal with sending the locks back – since the kit has locks in it

Any one considering McGard in black better jump on Summits last one… otherwise it’s like waiting for Volks.

I think if you order just the lug nuts (that I mentioned) you will find that they arent actually in stock and will take a while to arrive... that was my case anyway.

However, if you order the lug nuts with a bunch of other crap you dont need - you might get some (what I ended up doing).

It took Amazon one week to deliver my McGard black chrome lug nut & locks install kit. Not sure why you are having such hard time finding them

I got the kit too... received it a week or so ago... the problem was I had the locks already and only needed the spline drive lug nuts... I couldn’t find the lug nut only...

I ended up returning the locks and order the whole kit that included locks and nuts.

It seems that some vendors have the lock/nut kit in stock… because McGard directly told me they are backordered on lug nuts alone… and no one had just the lug nuts in stock…
