Correct. I believe this is the chrome wheel offered by Nissan.

The dealer may have chromed and installed the wheels. Nissan warranty is very specific about modified or altered parts. Read the papers that came with your car. You will find something like this:

The dealer makes no claims...

Think about it. Possible $5,000 damage: $2,500 for you and $2,500 for the lawyer. What lawyer is going to take on Nissan Corporation for $2,500?

+10K for aggrevation, +250K for emotional distress. It all doesnt matter, people sue for lesser crap then this for more then 5K. For crying out loud, does anyone remember the idiot lady that sues mc'd for hot coffee incident that got millions for it when she won? Who the hell doesnt know coffee is hot is a idiot.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the issues with the wheels Made in Thailand? There was a recall on the 2000 Xterra 16" silver wheels too, they were Made in Thailand by TSW and they had many issues with cracks in the spokes.

I would call a lawyer and ask about your options. Nissan chromed or not, your lawyer will let you know what your options are. Especially if you bought it from Nissan. If one says you are SOL, I would call another one to make sure.

I'm not sure what's involved in the chrome plating process, so maybe it can weaken the aluminium. However, I've had a couple sets of those stock 17's and I've flogged them pretty hard. I have never had a problem.

well my dad is a lawyer, so we'll get to the bottom of this case..

ill keep u guys posted.

As for the rims... im pretty sure these are just the stock chromes... ive seen another Z around town with my same rims. not too common though. i got this Z used, but there was no evidence of any kind of mods to the wheels.

As has been stated before, those are not stock chrome wheels. Either the dealer or a past owner had them chromed by a plating house not associated with Nissan. I don't know how the chroming process affects the strength properties of the cast aluminum, but there must be a chemist on this board who does.

Another reason why i would never roll on chrome wheels and the fact they weight a ton. Good thing the accident wasnt more serious!

The quality of this particular rim (pictured above) should not be questioned. I blew a tire, and drove 4.5 miles on the rim @ 60+mph. (Dont ask why, you will not recieve an answer)

The rim lost only chunks around the edges. The spokes did not fail, nor did they crack.

The rim in Davidv's pic is 5 spoked; one that came apart is 6 spoked. Not factory chrome.

I came with hours of ordering set of OEM wheels with aftermarkert chrome a few weeks back. Thanks to davidZ#3 for pointing out prolem. Phew....................................
