Default Five:AD wheels on Ultra Yellow

so I was hoping someone could photochop the Five:AD wheels shown in this thread

https://my350z.com/forum/wheels-and-...ad-wheels.html

onto a ultra yellow Z.

trying to decide if I should go with it or not. Except for black on yellow, there aren't a lot of UY Z's with after market rims pictured on the forums, so it makes it hard to decide. I would definitely go with the gunmetal grey if I did get these. And just for all those out there who would say it, I'm not going for performance, so I don't care if the wheels are a little heavy.

these are my favorite wheels by design, but like you said, they are a 'little' heavy (I believe the 18s are 27-29 lbs a piece!)

made me go in a different direction when I found out personally. they look great,

Love these wheels as well, and I almost bought a set, but like Entaille said, the weight drew me away. I may still buy them down the road but not right now.

That looks pretty cool, and you can't beat the price.

27lbs is not that bad for normal daily driving.

vex- thanks for the pics.

I have to say, the bronze actually looks a lot better than I thought it might. Either way I really like the look. Now I have to go add up what the damage to the wallet is going to be......

duro- in my imagination everything looks good but pictures don't lie

Ok, so I went to price out the TIRES to put on these wheels, and now I have sticker shock. I didn't realize the price hike you pay when you go from 17 or 18 to 19". WOW. I would basically be paying the price of the rims every time I change the tires. Hmmmmm I'm also slightly worried about the fact that it appears the sellers on the forum only really have good pricing / fitment for 19's. I live on a dirt road that is about half a mile long, and I worry about the strength and longevity of 19's. I crawl across the road until I get to the paved town road at the end, but still. Unfortunately, now I have seen them I my car I like the wheels even more! So now I think it is time to sit back and contemplate.

You can get the Hankook Ventus V12 K110 for very reasonable prices and it's a very good tire.

vredestein ssenatas are another great price / performance tire.

keep in mind though how important tires and grip in general is. I don't mind spending good money on good tires.. you are looking at it wrong too! a good set of tires for 18s/19s are not = cost to a set of wheels, much less, just comparable price to a set of crappy wheels : P

^agreed
paying about 1/3 the cost of my "good set of wheels" for a good set of tires.
there is a big jump in tire price from the 18s to 19s though.

Yeah I don't mean to make it sound like I want to skimp on tires. Actually it is quite the contrary, I want to buy the best tires I can for the driving I do. That generally means a high performance summer tire by a good brand that is getting good reviews no matter the price. Currently I am finishing off the original Bridgestones that came with the car. I probably have around 20,000 miles on them (I have winter rims/tires too, so not sure what the milage split has been) and I am not impressed with how they have lasted or how they have handled any kind of rain (which I believe is a common complaint of the RE040's oh and can I add, they are LOUD my winter tires are quieter).

I am a believer that good tires can get you out of a bad situation (doesn't matter how good your brakes/steering is if you don't have traction). Now with all that out of the way. As Hexxus said, I have heard and read on these forums that the Hankook Ventus V12 K110's are decent. I have never owned Hankook's before (I believe they are a bargin brand of one of the larger tire companies?) but they sound promising.

I really don't want to go into debt buying wheels and tires, so as I said I am a casual Z driver, who just wants to get rid of the truck look that the 17's have that are currently on the car and not spend a fortune (was looking at around $1500 out the door and yes $500 is a big difference for me). Of course I am a beggar wanting to be a chooser since I don't like the look of most of the cheep wheels on tire sites etc. I was shooting for 18's because that seemed like a good tire sidewall / cost vs. look compromise. Also, with the 17's companies are removing the high performance tires from this size. When the Z first came out you could buy a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's in the 225/50R17 and 235/50R17 that my car currently has. I always planned on buying those since they were always rated as an excellent tire. However, now you can no longer buy those in the size the Z needs. Basically it is getting to the point where at 17 inches you are limited to high performance all season tires. Now I own winter tires for the Z (for the few months when it is too cold up here for the summers, but still driving weather) so why go with all seasons?

SO back to topic, I wanted to move up a wheel size to be able to improve the looks, be able to buy something like the Hankook's and not spend too much. Then I saw the Five Axis wheels, and now I am wavering. Process looks something like this....

Love those wheels >> Add up wheels plus tires >> too much $$ >> look for cheeper wheels tires >> they don't look good >> buy original size and keep rims? >> negatory >> wow, love those Five axis...only come in 19's though etc etc

I've always liked these rims, especially for the price.

solution:

buy a set of $3000 wheels so that you dont feel like you're buying a new set of wheels every time you spend $1000 on tires... its only 1/3 of the cost of your wheels.

Yeah my budget right now was originally around $1000 for wheels and tires, but I was hoping with that price to get some off of the classifieds here with tires on them. However, the few times I have tried to buy something, usually someone else has already beaten me to it, or the shipping ends up being a dead end. So I was stretching to $1500 which is my top end.

I'm contemplating just buying some new tires now for the 17's and then just saving over time for what I really want instead of trying to scratch at the bottom end of the market. It was just tempting not to sink that money into the 17's and go straight to new wheels/tires, but maybe moderation is key. Wait, what is that M word doing here????
