Default Going to smaller profile on 17s

Hey guys, been searching all day and couldn't get what I was looking for. It is time for me to get new tires (again) on my '05 base. I use this as a daily driver and don't want to change the 17" rims. Anyway, the OEM sidewalls are 50 series - and I am having a killer time finding a tire I like in this series. How much difference would it make on noise/handling/ride/etc. if I went down to a 45 series tire?

Thanks in advance.

and reading through the sticky up there is pretty much greek to me, plus I don't have VDC so not sure whether that matters or not.

I recommend that you match the OEM tire height.

+1 , and if you want a lower profile, may i suggest the classified section on here, plenty of stock and aftermarket 18's for sale, most even have tires.

Thanks for the input.

I guess let me clarify a little bit. It isn't so much that I want a lower profile, it is that I can't seem to find a suitable tire in the 50 series. I don't really want to get new rims (even stockers). I realize the answer is still probably stick with OEM sizes so in that case, what tires is anybody running in the 225/235 50 17 size?

Thanks.

I went from OEM 225/50/17/235/50/17 to 235/45/17/245/45/17. No problems at all. I love the setup besides alittle more wheel gap. I'm putting my Sportlines on next spring so that takes care of that.
