I ordered rims and tires combined but the problem is that the toyo proxes t1s are in back order so I would have to wait a few more weeks for them to come in or I can opt to get the nitto nt555 tires and get my rims and tires now.

I guess my question is: how are the nitto nt555 tires compared to the toyo proxes t1s?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

The nitto's should be a lot cheaper. I think I saw 275/40/18 for $170 & 245/40/18 for $160. They are excellent tires. My buddy has them on his RX7 and they ripped me up in my Z through the mountains when I had my stock wheels still. I went with the Toyos when I went with TE37s b/c I got them at a great package price. I have heard from Paul at Avalon that the T1s get bettter and better as they wear. I like mine, but have only driven ~400mi. on them since I got wheels/tires. My incling is to buy Nitto 555 or Kumho MXs next time around b/c of price. I only drive my Z in the southern sun or on the track, so my tire preference might be a little different than what you want up in NJ. So, I don't think you can go wrong with either, but the Toyos will be $400+ more.

heh I think there was more than tires givin him the edge, a few hundred pounds less was helping.

but nittos arent a bad tire, probably the worst tire in that size. but thing is, only good tires are even made in that size, so its like the worst of the best... if that makes any sense...

I wouldnt hesitate to use them on my own car if I were in your position.

Ares- agreed on the weight, but this was the "Tail of the Dragon." I was oversteer drifting on all corners coming back down (back towards NC). My suspension was completely flat, but the rear tires were constantly noisy and losing grip (VDC off). Obviously weight plays into this, but a the track against the same car with my Toyos, I have been able to hold and gain on him in the twisties. I digress.. Ares, are you going to the Petite Le Mans this year? We hit that and then drive the Dragon on Sunday after the race...
