My new setup is 255/40 & 275/40 for the street & 255/35 & 285/35 for the track. I'm waiting shipment of my ARP studs so I can mount my new street setup with smaller spacers.

Post some pics once you get that done. I won't be getting my wheels/tires until spring/early summer. I'm so torn on what to do even after seeing good pics. The stretch isn't that bad but the flushness of the 255/285 looks safer. (Better sidewall)

It depends on the tire. Some have thicker sidewalls than others. A 245/275 Advan Sport or Michelin PS2 is as beefy as a Toyo/Falken 255/285

Great post! I've been debating on 285 or 275 in the rear for awhile now.

A 245 on a 9.5" wheel and a 275 on a 10.5" wheel will look too stretched, IMO. I had 275s on my 10.5s originally, and didn't like it at all.

What offset are your wheels? Depending on offset, you could also consider 265/295, 265/285, 265/305, and/or 275/305. Just giving you more options to haggle over!

Well, I hardly ever take my car to the track so 255/285 is as wide as I want to go. I am considering auto-xing at some point but I'd probably throw stockers back on for that anyway. I just hate the stretched look and don't think it seems safe. I just don't want it to look like my tire is under the fenderwell and the rim is flush or out a little. The edge of the lip needs some rubber covering to look good to me. (Some tires have rim guards or something so that even when stretched, they fit the entire wheel, which is fine)

Basically, I need a tire that fits the entire wheel without swallowing it up and making it look smaller than it actually is. And I need a balance of grip and life. (280AA-300AA) Any higher than 300AA and I feel like the car will spin too easily. Any other suggestions there?

Offsets are going to be +17 and +18. I'm pretty sold on the 255/285 Toyo T1Rs.

My next question: Will I have to roll my fenders with Tein S-Techs and the 255/285 setup? I'm thinking it's going to be a good idea just in case.

I'm not confident you'll be happy with how those tires look, size-wise, on those wheels - especially the front 9.5. Understandably, a lot of this is so objective, and you may agree or disagree once you see it (hence why you're doing all this homework, of course). But you saying "the edge of the lip needs some covering" makes me think, in my experience, that those sizes are simply too small.

I would make the same statement about the edge of the lip needing covering, and so I've opted for a 265 on the front 9" wheel and a 305 on the rear 10.5" wheel after trying 5 or 6 combinations to dial it in just right. Your choice of rear size will probably satisfy your requirement, but I think an additional 10mm would be welcome. As for the front, I think it's going to look grossly too small for you. Then again, different tire manufacturers and models run slightly different in size. 80% of my data is based on the best street tire available - the Michelin PS2. I've heard the T1Rs are better than the T1Ss. I sure hope so, because the T1Ss were complete poop.

Wow. That'll look horrible. Please swap the Nissan badge for Honda. Good day.

good to see this thread.

my gt-s phantoms should be in on the 23rd (thanks sharif) and i am picking up my (new to me)roadster on sunday in tampa, fl....

i was also debating on the size...

i was really leaning to the 285/255 combo...my wheels are +17/+18 as well...

i HATE stretched tires and wheels that stick out past the flush point of the fenders....hopefully, i will be happy with the fitment of the wheels...if not, there will be a really rare set of phantom gt-s wheels for sale....

You should ask him what brand/model tire he has, then look up its specs and compare it to what you're considering. Tires with the otherwise same size can be quite different in actual size.

depends on the tire too, i had 245/275 setup with 9.5/10.5 wheels, using BFG KDW-2's, which have slightly larger sidewalls to being with. they did not look very stretched.

yep, my 285 bfg kdw2 looks a lot more meatier than my previous toyo t1r 285 tires.

What tires are you running? All I can tell is that they are BFGs.

Wow... just saw this pic in another thread. 255/275 on 9.5 and 10.5. BFG KDW2s. I don't think the 275 looks stretched at all. This looks perfect.
