Default OEM 19" G35 Wheels Weight Question

I have a friend that wants to sell me the Forged G35 19" OEM Rims for cheap. I currently have the OEM 17" 350z wheels. I am told the G35 wheels weigh about 19lbs per wheel and the 350z wheels weigh about 24-25 lbs per wheel. How much better ET can I expect saving about 6 lbs per each wheel? I know the rotational mass has more effect when you save weight rather than static mass.

You are correct with your assumption and your data is more or less correct.

Wheel Version Front Weight Rear Weight
Standard 17" 23.26 24.14
Touring 18" v.1 26.56 26.56
Track 18" v.1 18.19 18.62
Touring 18" v.2 24.8 25.8
Track 18/19" v.2 21.25 29.50

Standard 17" Your Current Wheels
17-inch Base/Enthusiast wheels
17-inch Base/Enthusiast wheels
17-inch Base/Enthusiast wheels
17-inch Base/Enthusiast wheels

These wheels were the standard or base level wheels for the 350Z during the 2003, 2004, and 2005 model years. Base and Enthusiast trim packages featured these as standard equipment. Some dealerships offered this in chrome as an optional upgrade.

Front
Size: 17x7.5
Offset: +30mm
Weight: 23.26lbs
Tire: 225/50/17

Rear
Size: 17x8.0
Offset: +33mm
Weight: 24.14lbs
Tire: 235/50/17

Rays Forged 19"
Optional 19" G35 forged wheels
Optional 19" G35 forged wheels

Super-Light Weight Forged Aluminum Alloy
Front
Size: 19x8.0
Offset: +30mm
Weight: 19 lbs
Tire: 225/40-19

Rear
Size: 19x8.5
Offset: +33mm
Weight: 21 lbs
Tire: 245/40-19

You would save 4.26 pounds each up front, and 3.14 lbs each on the rear. This is a total of 14.8 lbs rotational mass. As far as what this will do for you, I expect slightly better gas mileage and slightly faster acceleration, but don't expect to be running 12's because you swapped to OEM 19" wheels. Also, I haven't verified if the weights above are correct as I have none of these wheels, but this was posted on the "other" Z site.

Thanks for the great response. I am probably going to purchase them. I love how they look and how much they weigh for 19" wheels. I suppose ill need spacers all around for a flush look correct? Maybe drop it on some Tanabe springs and ill be set.

I agree with *ICE*, from what I've seen, 25MM will have it sitting very flush. Look around for good pictures of this setup, while some people really like the look of the wheels being flush to the fender, others get frustrated when the tires rub the fenders from time to time. Just something to think about.

Hey guys,

Your wheel weights are correct. I posted those numbers on the Z wiki about the 19's. Weighed them myself!

I have the OEM 19's and I've lowered it on some tanabe gf210's. looks good right now, but I definitely want it more flush, but I dont want any rubbing! So should I go with 20mm all around instead??
Thanks

I'm 1.25" lowered all around with 25mm spacers and there is no rubbing at all.. even with uneven pot hole filled streets in NY, there is no rub if your careful enough.

You also have to take into account tire weight and inertial components of the weight distribution. While the 19" wheel weighs less, more of it's weight is further from the center, thus making it more difficult to rotate than a 17" wheel with the same weight

Agreed, and the tires will be heavier as well. I wouldn't plan on any real gain in speed due to just the lighter wheels.

just put em on my Z and really like the way they look.....not sure it drives any different other than its bumpier due to thinner tires. heres a quick pick.Name: IMG00088.jpg
