Default Tire size/brand recommendations???

I just bought some 18x8.5 fronts and 18x9.5 rears but am boggled by what tire size to get! I want a meaty, purposeful tire as I plan to recreationally autoX all summer. I'm thinking 255 fronts and 285 rears. Also, I see a lot of guys running 30-40mm heights and was wondering what affect this has on a car(Touring model) that runs 45mm height tires on the stock 18" wheels. Opinions??? My budget is set at $1000. What recommendations do you guys have for good daily driver/recreational autoX tire? Some pics are always welcome

If you want dual purpose tires for daily driving & autocross, get the Falken Azenis RT-615s and call it a day.

Wheels are common size.

Tires for street and autocross? Any good DOT tire will work.

Is it cool to go down to 40/35 series from the stock 45??? I don't really care about the speedometer/odometer but I don't want the wheel wells to look naked The car's not lowered and I have no intention of lowering it any time soon...

You'll be fine since the tires are wider, you'll retain the same overall height/diameter even w/ the shorter sidewall.

Shorter the sidewall the more response you'll have/feel in your handling/steering but you'll have less cushion (not that noticeable) and less absorption if you were to hit a pot hole or bad bump....in other words less protection IMO to protect your wheels.
