Wow, I missed scots answer. That was pretty much exactly what I was looking for....

I was quoted initially 60 by carlitos and when I showed up last Friday I was quoted 80 once the guy understood I had a Z. The guy seemed to like that I knew exactly what needed to be done, but by the same token refused to take the car halfway through the afternoon with a full shop and cars waiting. He said "On a car like that I don't like to feel rushed and want to be able to take my time".

I've GOT NO PROBLEM WITH AN ANSWER LIKE THAT.

80 bucks is a fair price, especially when the tech is recommended widely by a community, expresses knowledge of the car, and would rather lose business then be rushed and accused of doing a crappy job. I'll tell you Wal-mart would have told me it'd be 10 minutes, and 1 hour later I would have gotten my car back and told they can't dismount remount used tires and couldn't figure out how to do a X rotation since the rims wouldn't fit on the front due to some funky bolt on the rotor.

I responded to the guy with when and where would you like the car because I'll come on my day off so that you aren't rushed and I don't have to sit around. That day is tomorrow morning at 9am.

So.......there you have it. A full page of less then useful responses, but scots response of 100 bucks with a good shop, and my apparent answer of 80 bucks with a good shop, but potentially you have to wait to fit the car into their schedule.

Now was that really too hard / too much to ask for?

Oh and on one last note, in response to the Lexus service manager. I would give my left nut to do nothing but charge 43 bucks to rotate each tire, even using nothing but a floor jack and manual wrenches. I figure I could do a car every 20 minutes and make a cool $360/hr. Who needs 3 friggin degrees? Should have followed my parents path and just been a grease monkey.

This thread is lame.

If you are such a "know-it-all" "tire/lube tech" then why did you ask a stupid question? You should know How much and whats a good deal.

Any ways I just unmounted and flopped my eagle f1 tires to the opposite rim due to my camber issue. Now my tire wear is even and will stay this way for a nice period of time. I did this at Americas tire co. for only 60 buck. I got a sweet deal with a balance but got a small small small small tinny chip on my time attack red lip. =(. Thats why I will never go there =)

60 bucks OTD this morning. No damage to the rims and they have decent prices for Enkei RPF1's so I'll probably get my tire and rim package from them as well in a couple months.

I'm with the others that say don't if it cost that much. You won't add that many more miles to the tires. A whole set of toyo proxy are less than $500. The cost-benefit of rotating is not good enough to consider it.

You can only rotate directional tires front-back.

If you run staggered sizes (245/275) you can't do this.

Correct.... but you are all kinds of screwed if you have a staggered, unidirectional, asymetric setup.
