Default help with 305 in the rear

hey guys i am about to pick up some tires and have a few questions...Will i be able to fit a 305x35x18 in the rear with a 18X10 +20 rim? The only reason i ask is because Mickey thompson only makes their et street 2 in 265 and 305. One more question is what tires are you guys running on the track? Any one use the Nitto NT01? what about the BFG drag radial? Just looking for a tire that will Hook on the street and pull good 60's on the track.

thanks keith

Which Mickey are you looking at? I don't think the 305/40/18 will fit. Not because of the width, but because of the tall sidewall given that aspect ratio. I think you'd be better off getting a second set of rear wheels, smaller in size, just for drag racing. I run the Mickey Thompson ET Streets on 16" Z32TT wheels.

305x35x19 fit just fine, im sure the 18s will too. Are you lowered at all? Your going to have to roll the fenders too.

I'm not convinced he would have to roll the fenders. My 19x10.5 rears with 305/30/19s +28 do not rub without rolling. His 18" set-up is only 0.2" taller than my 19" set-up, and the out part of the rim is only 2 more mm out. It'll be close.

OP: I still think you'd be better off with a cheap but dedicated set of wheels/tires for drag racing.

^^^ i have thought about a set of just track wheels, but i aslo want to stick on the street.Getting loose in 3rd is not fun any more....I might just do the 265's because i think that the mickey thompson DR will give me plenty of traction. I have a few buddys with vett's and they love the tires over any other DR on the market.

I have the same problem. Let me share with you what I did (for my Z32TT).

For the track I bought a set of 16x8.5" Z32TT rears (<~$200) and put the stickier M/T ET Street (versus the ET Street Radial). They have a huge sidewall, which is obviously good for transferring weight to the rear for drag racing.

For the street/straight-line grip from a roll-on, I run a 295/35/18 BFG DR. It's not the stickiest thing in the world for drag racing (although some do use it for drag racing), but it grabs way better than any other big tire I've tried. Enjoy.
