thank you.but can anyone help me whats the best tire set up for my 18 inch nismo lmgt4 wheels?im not sure whats my wheel offset are i have to check it out tomorrow.but anyway my tires on my rears are 245/40/18 alot of people are dissing my wheels and tires.is there anyway i can change my tires to make it look more aggressive or i have to get some new wheels?

275/40 will work up front of a stock height car, with the proper/perfect offset. I would search but i'm to lazy right now, but a mag did a thing about handling with a Z and ran 275/40 all around with great results.

 

Need wheel width and offsets to answer accurately. Get on your knees and read the tags and/or stamps inside the wheels. Anyone who suggests info without this knowledge is guessing.

 

well i just asked kelly( he made a sticky about vdc and tire selections) and i will be ordering 275-40's for my fronts so i will be running a SQAURE setup =) this is his response that he stated i can post up for you guys to knowledge your selves with.

First things first, do you have VDC in your car? If not, then the whole discussion of tire sizes is irrelevant.

Let's assume you do.....

While many tire calculators will give you a warning, your current set up is within limits (as demonstrated by the fact that you're not having issues with VDC coming on during normal cornering or other inappropriate times.)

The difference between the stock fronts/rears (at least on my '04 350Z track) was something like 2.7%. The computer can deal with somewhere around +/- 3% from this, in other words upto around 5.7% and down to around 0% (0% means fronts and rears all the same size). Your current setup is a 3.57% variance, so you're within the range that the computer can adjust for. In other words, you're less than 1% off from stock.

Since a F/R variance of 0% is tolerated, you should be ok to go with the same tire all around.

The one thing I would caution you about though is that your car's handling was designed with the stagger (rears bigger than fronts) in mind. The oversteer/understeer characteristics of the car will change quite a bit when you eliminate this. If you don't spend much time 'on the edge', it probably isn't a big issue for you, but know it will be different than it was before.

thats exactly what i will be running very shortly and i hope to have the same great results that mag did. i know you said your lazy but if you can please get some more details of what the mag stated about the 275-40 square setup that would be great thanks

That is correct , they are not close to stock. Your stock tire should be a 225/50-17, if you hade the proper size front on your car you would notice the 275/35 is the proper size front.

 

i do have proper sized tires in the front... i DO NOT have a 350z... read the rest of the thread. i have a g35. and how can you say what proper size tires i should have? there are many different wheels and tire combos that z's and g's come with from the factory...

 

Sorry i missed the part from where we swapped from Z to G. Actually there really arn't many different sizes as far as Z and G coupes go. Only the sedan came with that size front tire, and i really don't know much about the clearance, offsets etc etc needed for the sedan.

 

well i know the g's has the 17's which i had, earlier sport models had 18's and the later sport models had 19's. Im not to sure about the z but im pretty sure it had the 17's and 18's and im pretty sure the 18's (depending on the model car) came in different size tires. Thats where im coming from when i say, it would be hard for you to say which tires are proper if you dont know what my car came with.

 

OK, G coupe and Z's all came with similer sized tires. Both models in 17's used the same tires, both models in 18 use the same tires and the G wearing 19's uses tires that are the same tire height as both the 17 and 18 inch versions. The only car that is different is the GT and Nismo Z with the 18f 19r combo, but those two can still use the same tire guidelines as the others. The tire size you listed is only available on the 4 door G, which uses a non staggered set up.

Sleeper, look in your door sill or cubby, where ever your stock tire sizes are listed. What is it suppost to have, unless you have the 4 door and then we already know cause you posted the 4 door proper tire size.

 

wow just checked the door sill and it says 225/50/17F 235/50/17 R but my tires read 55 series side wall and 225 front and 235 rear... and i bought the car with 11 miles brand new from dealer...

 

LOL , like mentioned on here by others from time to time , I know this car pretty dam well. Thats crazy that yours came with the wrong tires.

BTW what does your car have on the back? Please tell me they are the same as your rears. That would perfectly explain the instability problem your car has in the rain. Dropping to a non stagger (height) on these cars causes instability at speed (about 50+) even on dry roads. I've run a square setup before (track/autocross) to and from events and sure as hell wouldn't want to daily drive on a setup like that.
