Default Hub rings?

i just had a set of 20" staggered wheels put on with out the hub rings ( waiting on them) i noticed a delay in acceleration it didnt pick up as fast as it did stock causing the rpms to raise without that nice pull it gives you. Is this because i have no hub rings at the moment?

No but the hubcentric rings if left off the car, could result in a nasty vibration at high speeds that is felt in your steering wheel. Often mis-interpreted as warped brake rotors. But unlike warped rotors you feel them with increasing speed. Whereas with the typical warped brake rotors you feel vibration when you brake from high rates of speed.
Without the hubcentric rings, the wheel has a little bit of play and can be bolted up to the car slightly off center. The hubcentric rings help to eliminate that. It keeps the wheels properly centered on the hub. I hope this makes sense.

The rings have little if anything to do with your cars speed or ability to make speed. But rolling with 20" wheels versus the stock 17's or even 18's mean more rotating mass and they can FEEL like they make the car a little slower.

Let me guess...did you go with chrome rims???...only the heaviest option in big wheels. Straight aluminum 20" wheels or maybe a multi-piece rim may not feel quite as heavy/sluggish as the heavy chrome ones you are probably running with now.

Hope this answers your question.

P.S. Put the hubcentric rings back on as soon as you can. They actually are important.

no no chrome at all i think chrome is too over rated i went with black ruff racing wheel 931.. but once its up there the speed is fine very little vibration its just that pick up in first and second gear feels like its reving almost red line but low pull

I guess thats just the new weight of the wheels you will have to get used to. Any idea what they weigh?

Not exactly sure in regards to 20" rims. I run with 19" Enkei's which are supposed to be on the lighter end of the 19" rims. I think the rims alone are around 19lbs each. (But don't quote me on that #) - Staggered set.
Good luck finding out the weight.

Physics 101 - As you increase the diameter of the wheels and go with lower profile tires, you push the majority of the weight farther and farther away from the axle.

The rotational inertia grows as the distance and weight moves farther from the axle. It takes more force (power) to get something with a higher inertia to start moving and stop moving.

This is why you want 17" wheels for performance, 19 and 20" wheels for show.

no, it is because you got 20" wheels on a car that performs best with 18" wheels. of course your car is going to accelerate slower

The new wheels weigh more than the old ones? Most likely adversely effecting performance but at least they look cool. That's what its all about.

I had some 18 inch Ruff wheels and they were much heavier than my 19 S1's so I would assume that the 20's are much heavier than your previous setup.

I found some on ebay. The inner diameter is 66.1 mm (based on the diameter of the 350z wheel hub), and the outer diameter will be determined by the bore in your wheel, which can vary between wheel manufacturers. I believe my Volks have a 73 mm bore.

You put the wheels staggered per side instead of front to rear, didn't you?
