Default r888's and kdw2's... whos got the toyos?

Ok, I am in serious need of new tires. Currently I have the kdw2's on the z track wheels 245/45 in the rear ad 225/45 in the front. I definately need to go bigger since my turbo setup but am facing a few dilemas.

I know alot of the high HP guys are getting the toyo r888's and from what ive read and seen, i can see why. Question for some owners is, what type of mileage and life have you gotten out of those tires as the tread depth is very shallow and they are a soft tire.

I love my kdw2's, but no matter what need to go larger. What are some people running on stock wheels setups? Eventually ill buy a pair of wheels, but right now im sticking with the track rims until i find a pair i like.

Ive been thinking 265/35 kdw2/ or r888's in the rear and stick with the 225/45 in the front, maybe 235's up front. Have been thinking about 275/35 in the rear also, but highly unsure.

Searched through the forums on the tires people are using and they are both about the same price for me, kdw2s are only a little bit cheaper, so honestly im just looking for longevity length of the r888 and the size the most people are running on their stock wheels. Of course those who have the r888's would appreciate any insight.

Thanks in advance guys!!!

when you make your decision on tire size make sure that you dont end up having VDC issues due to increasing the overall height of the back tire with respect to the front tire.

I cant offer much opinion on size for FI since i'm still n/a, but I have 255/275 in the front/back respectively on RE050A pole positions

you would be lucky to get 10k from these tires if they are your daily driver. yes they grip well, but i wouldnt want to be driving on them during a down pour. its drivable in those conditions if you baby it. im running 305/30/19's in the rear and t1r's 255/35/19's in the front. i have a beater so i only drive the Z about two to three times a week at the most so longevity wasnt one of my concerns when i purchased the r888's. as for grip, im pushing 475whp on a DD and i can hool up in 3rd pretty well now in warm weather. we'll see how well it does when it gets really warm in 1st and 2nd. at the drap strip in cooler weather it held up fairly well. i was pussying it too much and didnt drop any air pressure, which was a huge mistake. that'll change next time out.

You really need wider wheels , then you can run something in the 275 and wider range. Next the 888 is a race tire, you'll probably have to change them with your oil.

Look into the Nitto NT05

Lol, I didnt even have traction with the 255 Eagle F1 and I'm only at 350 rwhp. Good luck OP. Get wider rims now!

im running Toyo 295/30/19 R888 in the back adn 255/35/19 T1R in the front. I think that i have better traction with that setup than my KDW 2's i had all around.

Thanks guys for all the help.

I do get decent traction right now with the 245’s but they are bald right now and I figure a good tread with a little wider width would satisfy me for the time being.

I know I need new wheels, but just haven’t found what I want yet for wheels, and surely not going to compromise for something temporarily.

on a daily driving sense. if you care about interior comfort-- FYI the R888 tire roar is pretty bad. On slightly damp roads (aka sprinkles), its not too bad. i drove in light rain/mist at Buttonwillow Raceway with the R888s and was only able to get it sideways (unintentionally) once under hard acceleration but definately no go for standing water, not the brightest idea. Dry weather traction they are quiet sticky when they're up to temp.. i've had them over 4k miles now, and gone through two track days and one really really really long burn out drift.. the rears have maybe 30% left, the fronts have significantly more.. i'd estimate normal driving conditions might get you 10k+... Billy johnson, when he used my Z for the USCC... ran them with slightly lower cold tire pressures.. (~27psi cold) and he got some good balance with them.. running an aggressive negative camber setting will get you some better lateral grip

i drove a G35C once with the BG goodrich KDW2s before. that was pretty impressive for a non race tire.. the tread is pretty cool looking too.. they claim W for wet weather, but never got a chance to try that out!

you'll be lucky to get 3/4 that - they don't like street use much

that being said, they are absolutely fantastic tire...and in a totally different class from a KDW2
