Default Stock Suspension + 19" wheels, Inside Tires GONE!

Last year I put a set of 19" wheels on the car. The rears are 10.5 wide and the fronts are 9.5 wide. I also remember getting an alignment right after I put them on the car. They came wrapped in Toyo T1R's

After a road trip to zdayz and a summer of typical driving, the inside of the tires are gone. So, now I need to at least get new tires, but i don't want them to wear on the insides as bad.

What else can I do?

You can always unmount and swap the tires so that the worn portion is toward the "outside" of the tire.

Cars that run negative camber with soft compounds will wear on the inside.

You can also have your alignment place pull the negative camber out of the rear if you don't care about the performance impact.

So, what you are saying is that the wear is normal?
Should they be completely worn after 1 season? I drove less than 10,000 miles last year.

Whoa that's rough...

Seems you can rotate it side-to-side.

Yea, just sounds like typical low tread rating wear.

How much more worn are the insides than outsides?

Get the print out (always) from the alignment shop to confirm things were in spec rather than take their word for it.

With "spirited" driving my rears last around 20k and fronts around 30-35k.

I suggest just dismounting the tires and swapping sides. I really don't see how your insides can be "gone" after 10k miles (especially on the fronts) with "normal" driving.

I'd like to see pictures also.

I have 20s with 9.5 front and 10.5 rear and mine lasted much longer than that. I have the same issue where the insides would wear much quicker than the outside. Just swap the tires out where the worn part is on the outsides of the wheel. It costs me 50 bucks for front.

Sounds like your alignment was not done correctly. Sounds like the toe was set up wrong for sure. My car is slammed on coilovers and with a proper alignment it does not wear tires. Take it somewhere else and get it aligned.

Assuming your alignment is correct, it doesn't make sense. Hell, since I've gone from the OEM 18's to those same sizes, I've seen the outer edge wear out first, not the inside. I admit to driving it hard, cornering fast and taking it on the track.

I'd get it checked again, especially the toe setting. Is your car lowered or any other suspension mods?

get the alignment checked and toe for sure. Inside wear is common my kdwII's are wearing a bit on the inside but **** i have 10 k on them already and prob 35% worn now. For toyos 10k to replace something is definitely wrong.

I will get pics for you guys tomorrow.

FYI, it is not sprited driving on the tires because I have a completely seperate set of wheels with my track tires on them.

One thing I do notice is that at 65+ there is a vibration that comes from the rear, which I've always thought was an alignment problem.

If there is a vibration then something is definitely not right. Definitely check your alignment.

My brothers RX8 has wear starting form the inside also. But he has about 35k miles on his Kumho SPT's and they are down to the wear bars now.

I am surprised with how many miles I am getting out of my factory Potenza's. I'm almost at 23k, should hit it by the end of next week. And they still have life left in them! I'd say I can take these Potenza's up to 26k miles..

i have the same exact problem as you, stock suspension ans size off tires and when i tried to get it align they said that my TOE was off and they couldn't fix it because on the Z you cant adjust the toe or it was maxed out or something. don't know how this helps you but i have the same problem

Thanks!

So, knowing the above, and the shape of the tires (pic attached); I think I am going to get an alignment and if the toe is off I will order a set of toe arms for the rear.

I am not going to be swapping the tires from left to right because I have to drive all the way to zdayz this year - I'd rather have peace of mind on my way there.

Here is a pic, sorry if it's not so great. What you can kind of make out is that there is no visible tread on the extreme inside and the rest of the tread is normal.

Sounds like too much toe-in to me. This causes your tires to "scrub", meaning that the tires want to roll slightly in toward the center of the car, but the car is moving straight down the road so you're kind of dragging the tire tread across the pavement in a direction that it doesn't want to go.

In physics terms, you have kinetic friction between the tire and pavement where ideally you only want static friction, i.e. the line contact between the tire and the pavement as the tire rolls perfectly forward.
