I just bought a set of OEM wheels with tpms installed....from what i hear its gonna cost me 100 dollars from the dealer to get these "reprogrammed" to my car? is it worth it to take the tires off my old wheels and the new ones and swap the sensors? thanks in advance

$100 is definitely kind of steep, it should be around 30-40 to get that done.

There are also some tire shops capable of doing this for you. If you can find a tire shop that has some of the more sophisticated TPM tools (either an OTC Genisis or Bartec Wheelrite tech 400) you'll be set.

Without Consult II (which only Nissan dealers have), a tire shop won't be able to re-program. There are tools for working with the sensors and then there is Consult which controls the computer in a Nissan car. That's what's getting re-programmed, not the TPMS sensors.

A tire shop will probably charge you much more than $100 to dismount 4 tires, remove sensors, dismount 4 more tires, swap sensors, remount 4 tires and balance 4 wheels.

Dealer charge to re-program should be around $50 since it takes less than 30 minutes to do.

It is possible, there are companies that make units capable of communicating via OBDII and teaching the system to recognize new sensors. Only the top of the line units, like the two I mentioned are capable of doing it though. This isn't equipment that every little tire shop has but certainly some of the bigger shops do have it.




...and yes, the cost of swapping out the ones from your old wheels will far exceed the cost of having the ECU learn to recognize new sensors .
