got my spacers on!!! looks great kinda wanna go with a 30mm on the rear.. cause the front is flush but since the rears flares are wider than the front it gives it the appearance that its sunken even though its not.. still a major improvement!!

I think i'm going to polish my wheels like ramirj2..

so 20mm and 25mm spacer with a lowered Z will not rub and does not need to be rolled?

you will have to roll your inner lip of your rears in.. at least i had to but im running 255/40/19's.

Most likely you will have to roll your front a little bit as well.. I did, but like i said i'm running 255/40/19 on all 4 corners..

Cam350- looks good. I actually like your rear fitment better than the front (my personal taste). I wish I could find a set of these in my area for a good price.

Question Unconventional Polishing Method for G35 Rays

First time poster, long time reader. So please be kind if this has already been covered and I just missed it in my searches. Ok, so I just bought a set of G35 19 inch Rays off eBay for a pretty good price. But like most of these pre-owned sets of wheels they have some curb rash. I’ve been doing a lot of research trying to figure out what I wanted to do with them. At first getting them repaired by a wheel shop seemed the best approach. Until I learned that the paint used by Infiniti on these is lead based, and shops in the U.S. can’t use that type of paint.

So then I started thinking about polishing them. But I really like the color of the wheels and think they will go great with my Chrome Silver paint on the rest of my car. Plus the fact that this will be a TON of work getting down into all those crevices with sand paper and a buffer. ..

Then it dawned on me. Why can’t I just polish the lip of the wheel, and leave the paint on the spokes and central hub intact?

It seems like a win/win. Less work, keep the nice paint, and if I curb the wheel again, I can just buff it out myself.

The question becomes how do I do this to maintain a nice crisp edge between the OEM paint, and the polished area?

Here is what I am thinking, and hear me out on this because at first I know this sounds a little crazy. The only way I can think to maintain that nice edge is if I can put the wheel on some sort of spinning device so that I can keep my hands at the exact same position. Then polish it like it was on a lathe. But I don’t know of any kind of machine that would spin something that big… except my car.

So, what if I jack the rear end of my car up, and bolt one of the wheels to the rear end, without any rubber on it, throw the car into first gear, and let it spin the rear wheels while I polish the rim. I’d basically turn my Z into a giant lathe.

The risk is if the car comes off the jack stands while I’m polishing the lip, Boom! It goes taking off into a wall or something. So I have to make damned sure it’s not going anywhere. I wish I had access to a lift. That would be ideal, but short of that I’ll have to use 2 jack stands to hold the rear of the car up. Then I’ll put the jack under the differential as “insurance”, and add two wheel chocks on the front wheels to hold them in place. That should be enough to keep the car stationary even if it rattles itself loose from the stands. I mean I would just be letting the idle of the engine spin the wheels, and it would stall out against the resistance of the wheel chocks.

What do you guys think? Am I crazy? Could this work?

Next thread is accidentally ripped off my hand trying to polish wheels that were spinning while in first gear.

Before trying that kind of polishing, I would take the wheels to a professional so the job can be done correctly. You method seems to be very dangerous.

You should probably keep the wheel off the car and just tape off where you don't want to sand.....

I like your original idea, but it's just not dangerous enough IMO.

Mount the tires on the wheels and have a friend drive while you rollerblade/skateboard next to the car while holding on. You can then use your free hand to polish the lip of the wheels.

Best case scenario- A nearby group of girls at a bikini car wash is so impressed that they rape you, forcibly.

Worst case scenario- Darwin rapes you, forcibly.

This is a risk you should be willing to take. Be a honey badger.

Next thing you're gonna tell me is I should be wearing a filtration mask when I'm sanding off the lead based paint. You people are no fun!

Yep,you are crazy to try this.
You could do the fronts using a machine that spin balances the tire/wheel assembly
on the car.The rear...(ever see Ferris Bueller?).
If you are set to do this, take the wheels off.Put e'm on a tire balancing machine at a buddy's garage.Do your "POLISHING THAT WAY"

Still a nutty idea.
