Wheel Lock questions
Ok, so i'm worried about getting my wheels stolen :P
So, a few questions.
1. Will wheel locks stop a thief from stealing your wheels if they want to.
2. What are the best wheel locks to get (Nissan factory ones from the stealership?).
3. Is there any reason why you wouldn't get wheel locks? other than risk of losing the key?

- Not really, but it will slow them down. Much like other crimes of this type, if they are experienced they will get them but it will just take them longer. If they are not experienced, they may not be able to get them.
- Not sure if there is a "best", I'll let others chime in with their favorites.
- Not really, it's a bit more expensive in most cases but it's worth it. Even with locks, if you go to a Tire Rack or something like that they will more than likely have the key needed.

Locks should slow them down so the Gorilla lock lugs system appealed to me, locks on all 5 lugs. Right around $60 for a set of 20 lugs if memory serves. Just google Gorilla lugs. I bought a set of OEM lock lugs (~$40) before so I'm running both. They use different lock types (OEM interior style, Gorilla exterior) so a little more piece of mind. I figure there is probably $7000 at risk with wheels, tires, and Brembos so paranoia is justified. Any opinions on which style (interior vs exterior) is more secure?

I bought gorilla lugs as well. the piece of mind you get here is that the thief won't have the key adapter to simply remove the lugs. most lug entry points are too narrow to fit a universal bit into there to mold and unscrew. experienced thieves could remove them but it would probably be more trouble then it's worth, and if you have a good car alarm, there is no way they will have enough time to do it.

Probably a stupid question, but does the Z come with an alarm as stock?
There is a red button on my electronic keyring (see attached). When I press this is makes an extremely loud alarm noise & the lights flash etc... does this mean my Z has an alarm? my dealer said this was a "hazard button" to attract attention.

it's a panic/hazard button, yes it's an 'alarm' but hardly a source of security. you have to go aftermarket if you want sensors and prox and actually be aware of someone messing with your car. I believe there are very very few parameters that will set off the stock alarm.

Some aftermarket alarm systems have optional tilt sensor module that will set off the alarm if someone tries to jack up the car.
If someone tries to steal my rims, I hope their jack comes loose and the full weight of my overweight Z33 lands right on top of them.

Which brings up a good point. I put my lug keys down with the spare tire because it is near impossible to get to them without opening the hatch. If they open the hatch, the alarm goes off and your car gets a lot more attention. If you put them in a glove, under the seat, etc. they just have to break a window, crawl in, find the key, and it might has well been regular lugs, they have the KEY!
To keep things from bouncing/rattling, I put the keys inside pipe insulation, duct taped it closed, and wedged it under the Spare.
Internal vs External Style (my name for this design, it may have an official name but I don't know what it is)
External (Gorilla)
Notice the vertical slots on the outside of the lug barrel, these slots are spaced differently for each "lug kit" to form a unique pattern. Supposedly hundreds of thousands of variations possible, but I kind of doubt that claim. Also, I think it would not be too hard to fabricate some fairly universal keys if you had the right tools.
Internal Style:
Smooth outer barrel of the lug unlike the Gorilla. The lock is the "flower" looking indent on the end of the lug. Again each unique to each lug kit with hundreds or thousands of unique keys. Personally I think this is the better, more secure design of the two.
