I would use closed. Ive heard about cases where rusting occured on threads within the nut and stud bolts. This might be uncommon, but i would still use closed.

So would it be smart to get the muteki SRs instead of the expensive rays? Whats the benefit of getting rays the lock and weight?

Muteki's lock also and come with a key. There is no reason whatsoever to get Rays or R40's or any of those IMHO.

I have blue Muteki's and they look great.

EDIT: The only reason they differ is they are made of aluminum instead of forged steel like mutekis. So they are lighter, (not much) but in exchange for this lightness they strip easy as ****. Try to put on/take off once or twice with an impact wrench and they are done.
