Default Loud Thumping!

Hi Everyone,

A few months ago my car started developing a very loud noise from the front tires. Almost like a thumping noise which became progressively worse the faster I went. The noise is also louder when I am in a turn. At the time I assumed this was just a tire wear issue and replaced the tires (they were due anyway). I was hoping this would solve the issue but it did not. The noise still persists. I dont notice any steering issues whatsoever (wheel vibration or veering) so I dont think it can be the alignment but I could be wrong. Could a bent rim be the cause?

I do not want to go start throwing money for alignments and rim inspections without being sure what it is. I might take it to a mechanic and have him take it for a drive but I was hoping someone on the boards might have some insight/experience with this.

Thanks.

Jack up the front and give the wheels a shake to see if there is any play - could be a bad wheel bearing (usually they whine though instead of thump).

Even though you just had new tires put on, make sure they balanced them again.

is the rhythm porportional to your speed or is it random? I know brake dust shields have been known to come loose but I don't remember if they exist on the front brakes.

Just some ideas, I'm no mechanic, but I have had a lot of crappy cars.
