Tire shop messed up my wheels need advice
I went this past weekend to get a set of tires put on my Z i have the 19" TSW thruxtons, that have the machined lip. I have dealt with this tire shop before with my tires and never had a problem but they are kinda expensive for my area but if thy do a good job I dont care, I havent drove my Z since september and I was celebrating my birthday saturday so i went to get the tires I had put on the car saturday. Well i dropped the car off and they looked busy so I told them no rush and take your time. Well i got the car back and went home to detail it for that night. Well there was black rubber residue left on the lip so when I cleaned it off I noticed 2 huge gashes in the lip of the wheel on the back of the car. I say the are parallel to each other and are about 3 inchs long and a inch wide and 1/8 deep on one wheel right on the edge and the metal is gone, on the other lip there is 2 big knicks where the metal is rolled up, almost in the same location, its horrible, i called immediatly and tlaked to the owner and he said bring back monday, So i took it back monday and he said I dont know how this happened that thy use plastic heads and put towels on all the metal stuff that touched the wheels. He said he can get his wheel expert to look at them thursday and see if he can file the edges down and try to fix it he said thats all he can do. I dont know how thy can fix the machined lip? So i told him I would bring it back and let him look at it but it need to be fixed right and if it wasnt then we would have to go from there. So any one got any advice on how to handle this instead of possibly getting arrested?

well thats a problem many enthusiasts deal with. I took my stock wheels down to the local mexican tire shop and they ended up scratching all my wheels. I didn't notice the scratches until a week later when I washed my car. My brother took his rx8 to a discount tire and they did the same crap.. it is frustrating.
First of all i think it was a bad idea for you to leave your car at the shop. Your digging your car's grave in that situation. Second if you really care about your wheels and don't want a single scratch on them, I think you should have asked around for an "enthusiast" tire shop. I have one in my local area and the owner is obsessed with his wheels just like we are obsessed with our wheels, but he does charge a premium. Everyone who goes there feels right at home.
I'll let someone else chime in as to what step you should take next.

well believe it or not its still possible to damage a wheel even when your being as careful as possible... i worked on some varianza's or something like that...anyways i used plastic covers on the clamps i was extremely careful as if they were my own. and the thing still came out with scratches on the lip...and it was because the rims lip was so fine that even with the plastic coverings it still damaged it..but your best bet is discount tire. i dont know about other ones but at least at mine if we screw up your wheels we'll send them to get fixed on us..
First, how big is the lip. If the lip is bigger than an inch than the rim is a reverse mount, which mean it is mounted with the face facing down. That is mostly likely the way they nicked your wheel, the guy was not pay attention to the metal clamps underneath and nicked the wheel, either while putting the rim on the changer or changing the tire.
As far as getting it fixed, if it is bad enough that you are not satisfied with the results after they attempt to fix it, they should buy you a new rim. If not call the corporate office.

Yea it is reverse mount and its not just a little scratch you can see the chunks from 25 feet away, i took by my dads house to show him and he saw it when pulling into the drive way, I am very careful with the car, it dont drive it much and take care of it, the wheels where a little dirty because it was raining on my way to the shop, Im figuring some one was paying attention and thy slid on the clamps since they where reverese mount. the wheels have a machined lip so i dnt see anyway of them fixing them, because i dont want a polished lip?

I agree with Discount Tire comments. I had some Work xd-9's. They scratched one real bad and sent it off for repair. They tried 4 times to match the paint...when it didn't match I told them to order me a new wheel...low and behold they did. Process took 3 months..however in the end I am happy with a new wheel.
I understand this doesn't help your situation...but it might help the next person in your shoes as they are searching for similar titled threads.

Take lots of pictures. Before and after. If the wheels do not come out as you expect them to - then demand new wheels or properly repaired wheels. If you do not get the desired results - small claims court.
don't expect to have your wheels for a few months...
Good luck. I had to go through this process with Belle Tire here in MI. End result - I won in small claims court and they cut me a check.. I bought less expensive wheels and went to a better tire installer.

someone drove it like the stole it after the install. scuffed it upagainst all kinds of stuff.
not realized until the car has left the premises - think you might be out of luck. their word against yours.
2+ people that will say they were ok when they were mounted and left the shop.
sell the wheels and get new set and new tire shop.

I also forgot to mention that owner told me that if his employees damage a car or wheel that he makes them pay for it, He said it teachs them not to damage stuff, I dnt think that is right at all. Kinda shady what you think?

The owner has basically allready claimed fault for them because he is agreeing to fix them

don't bother with the "wheel expert" trying to fix it - sell the wheels, get new set and new tire shop.
Take pictures before and after the install - before you leave the shop next time. No crappy iphone pics - get a proper camera.
Get everything in email - email owner and have him respond to your email via email - no phone calls. Email leaves paper trial of what is agreed between you and the shop.
verbal $#!t does not hold up in small claims court or any legal matter - if it comes to that.
good luck with the sale and congrats on new wheels when you get them.
sorry for previous post by accident

Just saying that email is better record than verbal agreement.
If people keep screwing up without consequence then the company will loose out money on every job they put out.
try from now to email to get what they accepted responsibility for and what they offer to you to rectify the problem so that you have it on file.
today someone will say one thing and tomorrow another. look out for yourself.

It doesn't teach them anything but that they work at a sh!tty job. This is probably the reason your wheels were handed so poorly. I'm sure to the owner, that looks great on paper. But, nobody likes to work under the threat of being undermined like that. You hire and train good people and expect some mistakes, mistakes that are the cost of doing business. Usually, places like that have very low morale because the owner is constantly taking pay or threatening to do so, and not just for incidents like this. Plus, the owner shouldnt accept that sort of work at all, even if it means his employees are working for free after paying for mistakes. It just makes them more disgruntled. Re-train them or let them go if they can't stop damaging customer's cars. Even if he makes it right with customers, they will still remember the hassle to some extent.
