Default Surface Layer Peeling on 08 stock wheels

I recently discovered that this has been happening to my wheels. Anyone have experience w/ this? Most of all, any chance of warranty replacement/fix?

This is next to the lug nuts.

Probably much lower chance of warranty on this, but this is near a curb rash. Note: this could be a result from curbing, but a curb rash shouldn't produce something that looks like this.

Seriously you do not expect free wheels from Nissan.

Well, I really don't see how they can say the peeling next to the lug nut is my fault...

Start sanding them down and paint them.

if there still round nissan couldnt care less whos fault it is. Now if theres a function problem (wich you really wont find on a wheel) than maby you can convince nissan to pay.. 1/4 of what a new set would cost. Nothings free.

I have a similar issue on one of my rear wheels, couple spots the size of a quarter peeling, looks like clearcoat coming off. No damage in the area at all, and it's only that one wheel. Doubtful the dealer will do **** about it.

That pic of the area around the lug nut, as mentioned above, is from a socket hitting it when someone was removing the wheels with an impact gun. Normal wear/abuse according to a manufacturer.

Sorry to say these both were most likely caused by you.

1) Be more careful when you park

2) Don't use an abrasive cleaner or pressure washer on the wheels EVER

Bought a certified 2007 in Houston and the dealership replaced a cracked rim and the clear coat peeled off of the BRAND NEW rim! They are replacing it again free of charge! There must be a defect! It's not always curbs or cleaners!

Get em powdercoated and just be picky who takes them on and off. Damn curbs anyway!

Mine actually have a few spots that I know are not from the curb. I was going to powder coat mine but I know someone with a 08 who powder coated the oe wheels and the wheels went nuts. They discolored after a short time and started bubbling. Something in the aluminum was leaching out.
After talking with my nissan tech he said he had heard of people that did this with no problems and others had the same problems. He thinks that nissan used 2 different types of aluminums and depending on when your car was built you may have that certain type of metal in your wheels.
Perhaps a bad powder coater...? Or is it really the wheels?
I believe the only way to find out would be to take it to someone who could test the metal maybe and let you know the quality/type?
