they would have to be programmed for the car. plus a different part number is usually a good indicator that it is not the same part

Yes they will work. Keep in mind that 2003 sensors are near the end of the expected battery life (7 years).

do i just take the car to the dealership and let that program the TPMS ? can they program the TPMS while they are inside the wheel? or should i take them out for programming?

thanks

Nope, it's a sealed unit.

The dealer can reprogram them while they are in the wheels.

With that logic, will newer model used TPMS work on a 2003 to avoid battery issues at a fraction of the cost?

yes, if you can find them for a decent price. When mine go out, I plan on looking for some 2007-2008 sensors.

Dave, are you positive 03 sensors will work on 2008 Z?

The tire installer stripped off one of the 08 tpms while removing from stock wheel and put it in the new wheel.

However, I have a set of 4 03-06 sensors (40700 CD001) that came with the wheels that I'm planning to take one and use it on the new wheel.

So you think this 03-06 sensor will work fine along with other three 08 tpms (40700 JA00C)?

Please help out.

Thank you.

I'm fairly confident that is still a true statement. A year or two ago, two members posted verification that new sensors had worked on older cars and older sensors were working on newer cars. Somewhere around 06 or 07, the part number and appearance of the sensors changed and that's what started the quest to determine if they worked the same as before.

Thanks Dave. I'll give it a try this Saturday and will update if it'll work or not.

I went to the dealership today to get the tpms learned in.

I have (3) 2008 stock tpms and (1) 03-06 tpms. And all four are now learned and registered. So 03-06 350Z tpms DO work with 07-08 350Z.

How much did the dealer charge to re-learn the sensors? They quoted me $250 for one new sensor and to re-learn (crazy)

Yes, that's crazy. Buy a used one for $50 and the relearn shouldn't cost you more than $50.

If you are so inclined, you can try to do it yourself....
