I personally like Fedex. The have whats called Direct signature. This way the person you ship them to is the Only person who can sign for them.

Fedex Ground cost the same as UPS and generally takes less time. It has been my shipper of choice for a few years now.

They will only get a delivery signature if you request or insure it. Otherwise they will be left at the door.

Mine too.

OP - are you shipping just wheels or wheels and tires? I have shipped literally dozens of SETS (4) of wheels/tires, as well as many tires and individual wheels. I may have more to add depending on what you're shipping.

I thought fedex doesn't cover lost/stolen items left at the door. When UPS does, but then your on a required signature list from then on.

If it's a wheel/tire combo (i.e. a wheel with a mounted tire), the best way is to cover the face of the wheel and the back with a bubble wrap then cover that with a circular piece of cardboard and tape the heck out of it. Put the label in their plastic sleeve, then stick a piece of tape over it to make sure it doesn't get torn off. I always write the to/from address on the other side as well with the tracking number, as I have had two wheels lost in the 3 years I've been shipping things. The first wasn't found before I was doing this technique, the second was found on the 2nd day with the extra information I put on the cardboard. On paper, there is a $7 or $8 charge at FedEx for "unboxed" items, but it doesn't always get charged. That's new this year.

FedEx has that same list - you have to request it at your address. I have done it for mine, they still slip up sometimes and leave things, but you can assure they'll pay if they leave an item and it gets stolen even though I've requested that no packages get left. If it's insured and they leave it (it's under the driver's discretion), they can't prove it was delivered and you'd get paid.

When I shipped my rim and tires. I put them in boxes with 4 pieces of cardboard over faces of rims and but some hard cardboard in the corners. 4 boxes like that and shipped them using my ups work account. The buyer received them perfect.

$100 if you don't declare anything, which also means if they leave a package and it gets stolen, lost, removed, or delivered to the wrong person w/o a signature, they pay the $100 (has happened to me twice now). You can insure for over $500, but this is the disclaimer:

"Alert: One or more of your packages has a Declared Value greater than $500. Therefore, "Direct signature required" has been pre-selected for your shipment. You may choose another signature type."

I have shipped with fedex before and ups. I prefer to used fed-ex and if it is a residential address, then it becomes a home delivery. I always insure the package and request a direct signature.

Last I shipped FedEx Ground, they said that I can't declare/insure more than $500. But "online" quotes allowed me to declare more than that. Werd.

I shipped a small, very valuable, package for work last year. I insured/declared it at $25k. Delivery was like $8 plus $112 for insurance.

lol, I guess the best way is to get the shipping label done online then drop it off vs getting it done at the local FexEx store.
