(Is the kit exactly the same? SAme part numbers for VDC / Non VDC?)
Jeff's car did not have VDC to begin with. NISMO is releasing a bunch of new parts as well as re-releasing parts like the S-Tune suspension with approval for use with VDC equipped car's.

We do not have them in just yet but expect our first set shortly.

The NISMO and the TEIN Basic should be considered in the same category, with Tein getting the nod as

1. being rebuildable (NISMO is not)
2. abilioty to adjuist rideheight (depends on the customer, some want this, some don't).
3. price - Tein blows the NISMO away here
4. warranty - both are warrantied, so long as you by them from an authorized dealer.

The Flex is a nice setup if you want the features it offers - dual height adjsutment, 16 way adjustable dampening, pillowball mounts with front camber adjustment, etc etc. For the guy who does occassional track days - a good overall setup. Not for hardcore competiton, but was not desinged to be - think of it as a system that can be used for some track time, etc., while remaining very streetable, an giving laods of adjustment usually only found on far more expensive units.

Both are great though (I have been in cars with both), so you cannot go wrong with either.

So how do the basics compare with the next level Tiens or JIC?

Just curious—do you have to have a Nissan dealer install the S-Tune suspension to have it covered under warranty?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yeah, you need the dealer to install if you want the warranty...

WRONG. OK Nissan (Nismo) S-Tune parts are covered under nissans standard parts replacement warranty. Coverage is, 12 month or 12,000 miles. IF you have the dealer install the parts, BOTH parts AND labor are covered. IF other than a dealer installs the warranty is only good for the part itself. Furthermore, if your vehicle is withen the Basic new car warranty, your Nismo S-tune parts are covered up to the 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty.

21 years of Nissan dealer for me, If you want I'll post the entire warranty policy. NISMO.US

Wow, Adam, you have been in Zs with the nismo s-tunes AND Zs with the tein basics?? What are you impressions?? What about bounce issues with basics?? Anything you can tell us about differences/similarities would be much appreciated.

when i go over bumps it doesn't bounce but at the same time you don't feel the harsh "bang" with stiffer shocks...

i like these cuz i only paid 1130 for them but most importantly, i have nice comfortable ride and when need be, the confidence to take a curve at 70mph...

the drop gives me room for a lip and not have to worry about going up on driveways...so...hope this helps....
Exactly. The bounciness that these Z's come with is almost completely gone. Crazy. Its a night and day difference in handling, comparing a Z with and without the G-attack. So much that you can say its like going from a car that cant handle to the Z. It makes it feel like the Z w/o suspension cant handle. I didnt even get the sways, and I have no body roll, the steering response is amazing, etc. I dont think I would benifit from the sways.

My dad is getting the suspension just for the simple fact of the "bounciness" being gone. Not to mention it makes his feel like a grandma car.

I got my from Grouppe-S, with free shipping.

So what is the best price out there for the s-tune?
So far I only found them for $1300 from Performance but I heard people pay as low as $1200.

I paid $1200, including shipping and no tax. Ask for Max at www.gruppe-s.com

I had a set of Aragosta coilover on my 99 Lude SH, it was too hardcore and way too harsh on streets... therefore I'm hesitated to get another coilover system for my Z.... the S-tune looks like the best choice for me now~ hum, gotta go check out grupps-S

Thanks for the info. Has anyone purchased from them before, 'cause I'm a bit skeptical about their overall policies.

Yeah, I did. Have S-tune installed. Very happy with their service.

However, s-tune is so popular that they may be out of stock, and you may have to wait until next shipment (i.e. may take a while).

good luck!

I didnt have a problem, I waited and "watched" mine come from Japan. At one point I was really scared, the parts come by boat and it was storming pretty bad on that side. It took a week +? then almost another week to clear US customs, then to my house. Max keeps you updated, thats what I liked. He lets you know if its gonna be a long wait or any problems that might arise, no empty promises.

The packaging was awesome, and you get two large Black Nismo boxes. A perfect storage place for you stock cheesey looking parts.

I ahve not experienced the "bounce" people complain of, so its hard for me to say. The only stock Z I have serious seat time was my own, which is an 04 and had no bounce issues at all.

You must remember, such ride issues can be cuased by wheel weights, tire selection (ie sidewall stiffness) and most notably, air pressure in the tires. It's really a very subjective thing IMHO.

As for ride quality, there were almost no differences between the S Tune and the Basic setup. Basic gives you ride height adjustability, NISMO is a fixed height.

Tighter springs, softer (but mre taught) shocks, and new "bump stops". Thats whats the newer 2004s have.

I have a late 2003 Z and I have not experienced the "bounce" some talk about. I wonder if Nissan made some changes quietly before the 2004's came out?
