I'm in the market for some new wheels and tires. I have a Performance model, and I have decided to stay with 18" wheels. I'm still looking for the exact style of whhel, but I've decided on 245/40 18 fronts and 275/40 18 rears. These come out to be pretty darn close to stock sizes for the VDC and AntiLock sensors.

I looked through Tirerack for rubber in these sizes. I am NOT going with the RE040's. I do see the S03's are available in these sizes, but then I also stumbled upon Goodyear F1 GS-D3.

Has anyone run this model of F1's? I'd love to know how they wear and handle on the Z...

Oh, for the wheel experts out there. What size wheels for those dimensions? 18 x 8.5 front and 18 x 9.5 rear?

 

Staying with the 18" wheel is the right choice IMO. I'm running Dunlop SP9000s, and I love em. I have Nismo wheels, 8.5" and 9.5" with +25mm and +30mm offsets. The tire sizes and widths you list are the correct ones to maintain the proper stagger. BTW, the handling increase you'll notice is awesome.

I know nothing about the Goodyears, except that's the tire that the Corvette uses. You might go to a Vette site to check them out.

Yes those are the right sizes for those wheels. I have been planning to use these Goodyears for a while now. However, while the rears are available, the fronts are on backorder about 150 units. I am getting my wheels in one week. I think I may go with Toyo Proxes T1S if these are not back in stock. These Goodyears have great wear ratings, noise ratings, and grip ratings. They LOOK like a great tire. I think there are a couple people here with them.

 

Anyone know how heavy the Goodyears are compared to the Toyo's?

 

I am running the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s on my Nismo wheels in the sizes mentioned for over a month and a half now. Did my research before buying too. Note that this is NOT the tire that Corvettes run, which are Eagle F1 GS-EMTs - much different tread pattern and compound compared to the Corvette. I have over 6 thousand miles on the new rubber including a track event at the Z Convention New Hampshire Intl Speedway roadcourse. These tires are just awesome! They are quieter than the stock OEM rubber (but then, which tires aren't? ), and have much better grip in the dry while the wet grip is greatly improved over the RE040s. TireRacks comparative ratings are right on for this tire versus other Ultra Max performance rubber! The tire has gradual breakaway when pushed on the track, and provides good feedback on the track. They look phenominal also, with a slightly more aggressive deep vee pattern than the Toyo Proxes T1S. They have a very square shoulder profile, and fill out the wheel wells just fine on the Nismo wheels.

Tire weights for 245/40-18 & 275/40-18 sizes:
Toyo F/R - 24/28 pounds
Goodyear F/R - 25.7/28.9 pounds
Pole Position S03 F/R - 28/33 pounds

I'm running on the F1 GS-D3/Nismo GT-4 combo also. I don't have near the experience with them that ChinaClipper has (only about 100 miles), BUT the difference over stock is waaaay for the better!
Yes, the 245-18 size is on backorder--I was lucky that my local Discount Tire store found a pair back east and had them shipped out.

I am a long time S03 convert to F1 GS-D3s. They took the T1-s design and made it work better with a 280 tread rating. These tires are excellent without the jolt of the stiffer sidewalled competition. Get them.

 

i've had them for about 10000 miles, and i love them. they're great. and as an added bonus, IMO they look bada$$.

 

It looks like some are back in stock so I will be getting these instead of the Toyos I thought I would be relegated to. Yay.

 

yup I got em in rear(didnt know too much about them, wanted toyos) but toyos were backordered in the 275 size at the time. so went toyo in front, goodyear in back. incredable traction from them(tho its compared to stock... cant compare to toyo)
