I agree with David theres no way balancing a tire could cause that. That had to be done on the road by the op and never noticed it till now

Get replacement wheels from craigslist. They shouldn't be expensive at all.

Well, as I expected they said there was no way they could have done it. They weren't complete a$$holes about it but I doubt I will be going back anytime soon. So I out about $150, which isn't terrible but I sure would have liked to spend that on something else.

One of my coworkers is going to weld it up as a temp fix while I find a new rim.

LESSON LEARNED.

I work for a sign company and we fabricate all of our signs from aluminum. Another guy here actually had the same problem with the rims on his Xterra and they welded back up. He's been driving on them for a year or so. (I don't plan on driving on it but a few days)

Look for some evidence that the rim was dropped. I too can't see how the shop could cause this. Even if it did happen when they tightned down the wheel for balancing or mounting, there most likely was a crack there already.

Gravity castings get defects like this. Discuss it with the shop. Weather they did it or not, if they noticed it, they shouldn't have let you out the door with it. Good Luck! But start shopping for another wheel.

I'm suprized they didn't laugh in your face. Its plain and simple a defective wheel, hit Nissan up if you want to blame someone.

u can get a replacement for dirt cheap. So i wouldn't have bothered going back there. I would also rather ride on my spare for a few days then a cracked, or "welded" rim. GL OP
