that wheel and entire rear end looks like it hit a wall at high speed. Everything fails at some point.

Yea, that doesn't look like the wheel failed... It looks like the driver failed...

Nice offset in the rear BTW...

yea but even at 50-60, that would be a pretty strong impact... Looks like he went sideways too..

there is so much energy in play at 50 MPH. Think it's a 3,500 lbs. car moving at 50 mph. The momentum is pretty great there, so smacking a wall at that speed would have no problem doing that.

if you guys take a closer look it doesnt look like it hit a wall because if you look at the outer lip theres like no damage to it. If it did hit the wall, the outer lip would of dent or bent in with scratches on it but it doesnt have any of those and FYI I took physics when I was in high school so I know pretty well that about how much impact it would give out. There are so much more worst accident out there and I have never seen a volks or work or etc.. done that before the most is a little crack here and there but something like that? never ever seen a wheel fall apart like that

^^ i think you need to look harder... there are scratches on the edge of the lip, as well as scatches on the body that indicate that the car was moving in the direction of the wall. I'm guessing the car spun out and hit the wall pretty hard with the drivers side rear.

For the OP, the wheels are cheap cast and should be fine for dding. If you plan on putting your car into walls or abusing the wheels significantly, you may want to purchase something of a higher quality. A rays wheel or another high quality wheel may not have broken like that given the same impact, but it would probably be damaged beyond repair.

How it broke gives more infromation than just teh simple fact that it did. It cracked along the strongest part of the wheel (center face) in a diagonal direction, indicating a poor crystal structure in the first place. I wouldnt expect many wheels to be usable after a 50mph crash, but cracking metal usually means poor starting material.

If a wall was the culprit it Looks like the car bounced off the wall and hit from either front to back or vice versa.... I'm thinking from back to front and tire took the brunt force... Not sure how i feel on this one. I banged my right side hugging a curve at high speeds (well over 40) and my car actually kicked out when i hit it and all that happened was my side skirt got kissed and the wheel had a nice chunk and perfect curbage all around. Next time having some parking lot fun i banged into a divider and the same thing happened.. Nice chunk missing (35th anniversary wheels) but still held up... The car mentioned above must have been going hard for that type of damage or the weak structural point in those wheels are where the spoke meet the barrel. Not the first time a wheel has been shown to break at that point but usually a bend can be seen..

Last drift event i went to i saw damage to a car like that, tagged the wall with the rear end , when the rear hit the wall the car changed directions and tagged the front end. I've also seen a front hit, then the back of the car hit shortly after.

Here we go...

Even if it were a Volk,Work, Weds wheel, I'm pretty sure it would be damaged beyond repair and you would still have to replace it anyway.... To think all the money down the drain... Maybe even have to wait a couple of weeks/month(s) for a new one...

But for another Rota, just call wheeldude! LOL

Anyway, I would be more worried about the damage to the car than the stupid wheel at that point...

those wheels look like they are copying some of the basic BBS styles and they are really designed around spreading impact and being strong. the car looks f'ed up enough to destroy any wheel that might have been on it.

everyone rags on my rotas but I've abused the hell out of them and hit some pot holes hardddddd, and they are still holding strong. I sure wouldn't feel all that bad if I had to shell out another 250-300$ to replace one either. : P
