Default Tire suggestions?

Hey guys, I just got a set of SSR Type F for my Z. They're:
18x8.5 +30
18x9.5 +22
What size tires should I get? I don't want to have any stretch if I can avoid it. Also taking suggestions for brands. These are for the summer only, so not really looking at all season. And I want to lower my car moderately, maybe 2-3 inches, can anyone recommend springs?
Thanks for all the help.

Just a street tire or will there be any track usage involved?

Michelin makes the best tires for just about every application (summer performance, all-season performance, winter, truck, and off-road). If I want the best for any application, I buy Michelin (and pay a lot more $$)

Continental is the best for performance to value. You can usually buy these tires at a very reasonable cost.

no love for Bridgestone eh...interesting opinion, although those are good mainstream brands.

No track use for my car. I had a set of Toyos for my Integra and they were awesome. Felt like my car was on rails on warm pavement. But if it even drizzled during the summer I'd have absolutely no grip. So Toyo is out.

I feel dumb for asking...but can anyone explain in simple terms why the tire width is different on the same size rims? I've seen 245/40/18 tires on a 18x8.5 +30 rim. And then there are 255/40/18 for the same rim? The first number is the width of the tire, the second is the height of the side wall and the third is just to match the run size, right? Is the difference in the tire width only for purposes of stretch?

Nope... you have the aspect ration confused with the sidewall height.

The metric tire sizing system represents a tire size as:
[section width (mm)] / [aspect ratio] - [rim diameter (inches)]

For example: a tire size 225/45-18 is 225mm wide, has an aspect ratio of 45 and fits an 18" rim (wheel).

The aspect ratio (the second number) is not a measurement. The aspect ratio represents the tire's sidewall height as a percentage of the tires width (section height divided by section width). In the example above, the sidewall height is 101mm (101/225=45).

The aspect ratio is important since that (along with the wheel size) determines the overall diameter of the tire allowing you to match your stock overall tire height (diameter). For example, a 225/45-18 tire's sidewall height is 101mm, and a 245/40-18 tire's sidewall height is 98mm.

Hope this is clear and helps you understand tire sizing,

Thanks man, that was best explanation I've gotten! So based on my stock tires being 225/50/17, I have a sidewall of 112.5, the 17" converts to 431.8, for a total front height of 544.3. The rear is 235/50/17 for a total of 549.3. Is my goal then to match that total. Is there a range for how much sidewall I should aim for?

I was looking at 245/40/18 and 275/40/18. That gives me 98 and 110 for sidewalls, less then stock, but total wheel height increases to 555.2 and 567.2.

Am I on the right track?

Hmm, ok, so if my rims are 8.5 and 9.5 width, that's 215mm and 241.3mm respectively, shouldn't I go for roughly 225 and 245 tires to somewhat match?

Thanks everyone for your help. I went w/ Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires. Here's a pic of the wheels mounted.

Now should i get center caps? Or just paint the hub?
