Some things to consider with 20” wheels:
  • You will pay a premium for tires.
  • You will pay a premium for the wheels
  • You will have a harsh ride.
  • 20” wheels have a lower aspect ratio, so be careful. Hitting a pothole =’s bent rim.
If you decide going with 20” wheels, I think you should consider a wheel setup that has 20” wheels on the back and 19” wheels on the front. That setup allows about the same section height on front and rear, and it looks OK. It’s more comfortable and economical than 20’s all around.

Some of the exotics are equipped with 20” wheels, but these very expensive cars have sophisticated suspensions that are considerably better than the Z’s pedestrian suspension.

If your intention is taking the car to events and shows/competitions, 20” wheels are appropriate. Otherwise, that size wheels carries more liabilities than “worth.” You probably will not like 20" wheels for street driving.

I must be shopping the wrong sites.

Of course a 19" wheel will need a different profile than a 20" wheel, so your suggestion ("... most 19" tires r more expensive than 20" ones with the same brand, width and profile.") isn't correct at its most elemental level since you suggest comparing the same profile.

Would you post some examples of the pricing you reference?

Additional Note: To maintain a fair comparison, realize that some manufacturers and retailers have "specials" from time to time to dump excess inventory.

Yup. Colors are in too, I suggest gold up front (to match the teeth) and yellow out back (to match the other teeth).

It has been mentioned before, but it is worth repeating in a more straightforward manner....

Getting wheels that are heavier than what you have now will make your car slower than it is now.

So getting the look you want will cost more than just the money for wheels and tires. It will also cost you performance.

But it's your car. If a certain "look" is worth the cost to you, do it.

I've had a 19inch setup and a 20inch setup. The tires were cheaper for my 20inch setup because 19inch wheels are more rare than 20's. Usually it goes 17's, 18's and then jumps to 20's for most cars. Pluse 19inch wheels were manafactured after 20inch wheels.

What most tire shops(and even big chains like Discount) will tell you is that 19's are more expensive because they are not "common size"... Then again, "uncommon size" tires can com in different diameters aswell...

I notice that more expensive brands (e.g., Bridgestone, Michelin, and Pirelli) have the greatest differential between 19’s and 20’s (20’s being more expensive in comparable sizes).

That doesn’t seem to be the case with less costly tires.

im running 20's on my z n they ride fine. IMO, everybody has 19's cause they are scared to run something big and cant handle the criticism. why you want to be like everyone else? stand out! it really depends on the wheels too. cant get some discount tire 20's haha.

this is mine on 20x9.5 and 20x11 -5 all around. work varianze t1s

Like what most poster's have stated. Stick with 19's OP unless you have an SUV or something. Depending on the what rim you select, it is most likely you'll get added unsprung mass from the larger tire size also.

Do some searching on the site.... Find out what others are running.... Find what you like... Get the specs.... Find a vendor.... And buy some wheels!

Nothing wrong with getting opinions, but every thread like this turns into a pissing contest. You will never be happy with rims someone else picks out for you, so get what you want.
