....before I go through the work -- you do have to remove the valve stem and leave it out? Right? (The question is dumb, I know, but I don't know how the TP sensor works.)

 

The sensor and valve stem are one piece, I had them replaced with standard valve stems on the stock wheels.

The kit is fairly simple to make, however I would need several people's interest in it in order to invest in the materials to make for sale.

 

You can count me in on a set. Hopefully my GT-C's will be here in a month or 2.

These seem pretty simple to make, but then again, im just too damn lazy.

 

The sensors fit the GTC, why go through all that trouble just to add weight!!

What your doing does work, this is what I had to do on my 2002 corvette. I had set of 20" HRE wheels put on and we had to do the same set up. Make sure you use some 3m double sided tape along with the clamp!

 

What is to stop this setup from rotating? Accelerating, Decelerating, just plain driving with all the viberations/gyrations involved how long will it be before things have changed just slightly enough to be out of balance? You are just relying on the friction of the band to keep this setup from moving along the groove..... This thread is old enough for some feed back, Is it still working????

 

why not just epoxy them in place?

You could also do this with those massive HVAC wire ties along with some double sided tape. I'm getting ready to mount some sensors in my new I-forged Aero's.

 

I wouldn't use tape.

The combination of heat (hot roads in the summer) and vibration are likely to bust the tape loose. Just my opinion of course.

These band clamps seem like a great idea. Very secure and long term.


Can you get the clamps in chrome?

 

i have the enthu model which didnt come w/tire pressure monitors. if i install a set of tpm's will i have to buy a new gauge or will my gauge automatically start reading it?

 

anyone wanna make and sell me a set of th abands?

 

it doesn't look to hard to make, but not sure if I have the time to do it while the tire changer is waiting for me.. they'll have to remove the stock wheels/tires, remove the tps, then hand it to me, then I would have to mount the sensor right there on the spot, and then give the new wheels back to the tire changer, so they can mount the tires..

wish there is an easier (faster) way..

epoxy would be good idea, but it takes time to cure..

 

What about balancing aftermarket rims after the tires are mounted, is this much of an issue?

The system is more then just the sensors in the tires... the reciever is probably missing from your car as well.. just putting the tire portion in probably will not do you any good. There is a whole module in the car that does the recieving of the signals from the units in the tires and sends that info on to the ECM.

 

Can anyone here help me out with what the connector is or looks like? I bought new rims and the guys in the shop said the sensors didn't fit the rims. So I had them go ahead and mount them without the sensors. So I emailed the corporate office (Discount Tires Direct cause it was thier local store) and both corporate and the store manager contacted me to offer another rim. The local store manager said that if I come up with a fix, he'll remount and balance the tires for free! This is where the power of the Forums comes into play! Yeah!

Now I've got to figure out the connector issue.
