Default Drag Wheels and Slicks w Brembos

Hey guys,

I've been trying to pick up a set of slicks and wheels for awhile now, but i dont know the proper sizes.

I have brembo brakes so i need to know the minimum wheel size that will clear them. I was hoping to buy a 15" wheel, but i dont know if that will fit.

Im only looking for wheels/slicks in the rear....to be swapped over upon arrival at the track.

I was looking at a set of tires like these http://www.jegs.com/i/Mickey+Thompso...3743R/10002/-1
It just depends on what the minimum wheel size that clears brembo is.

Thanks for any help guys,
Cory

No 15s over the Brembos. Some 16s fit, but not all.

Have you test fit them over the Brembos? The 16" 300ZX wheels have a rib in them that hits the Brembo caliper, the FD wheels probably do work though.

Are they warm at all? Do you mean they spin at the track or on the street? Any cold tire will spin with even minimal horsepower.

I like the Toyo R888s for the street on my high HP 300ZX TT (295 R888 with 600+rwhp), but I can not drag with them. I use a Mickey Thompson ET Street on a stock 16" 300ZX TT wheel.

I get em warm and they can hold to the top of first and second without spinning, but forget about any kind of a launch unfortunately.

I was thinking maybe 17s with these tires
http://www.jegs.com/i/Mickey+Thompso...3743R/10002/-1
but i cant find any cheap lightweight 17's that i like.

I could even drive those to the track.

My current wheel/tire setup is Rays 57G 18x9.5/10.5 +12 with Toyo R888 275/35F..305/35R.

You can just source a set of FD Rx7 wheels (16" and very light). You can easily put a 26x10.5 ET street/drag on there.

Is this a vortech car?

If I were you I would look for a slick over DR's.

Yea ive got the Vortech with 2.87, DW 600cc, 255, AAM Stage 1, Fuel Rails, etc etc

Yea i think a slick over DRs might be the way to go.

Has anyone used to RX7 16" FD wheels with rear brembos?

Should i leave my front 9.5s with 275/35 R888s on at the track or grab my stock 18s with 225's?

I'd run the stock 18's. Alberto uses the FD wheels with slicks on his car.

slicks in the rear and radials in the front is a sure way to put your car into the wall.

Hopefully you were just joking about that combo.

Smaller front if at all possible. You don't want that snowplow effect.

This only seems to be an issue at much higher speeds, at least for me, on the unmatched bias/non-biased ply tires. I really didn't feel much of the effect until trap speeds exceeded 115-120mph, cuz by 130mph, there was a lot of side-to-side dancing at the back of the car.

Never had a problem with slick radial combo below ~125 on track......

I'd probably run some skinnies on the front, but that wasn't one of his options.....and that side to side wiggle will be worse with a 275 r-comp on the front.

What's the width and offset of the 16" FD wheel? Do you have to run a spacer with it? Also, does anyone know if it will clear a StopTech rear BBK setup with the 328mm (12.9") rotor and ST22 2-piston caliper?

I've been considering going 17" and running the Hoosier 28.0/10.0-17 slick. But I really haven't done much in depth research or searches here on the forum yet to help me decide on what to do for my drag wheel & tire setup.

The offset is very high....+50. You will need a spacer. They are 16x8.

Rude, what kind of HP? 28" is a relatively tall tire. Tire height (sidewall in particular) is more important than width in a true drag slick. 28x10.5 in a 17 should be able to handle quite a bit of power. 28x10.5 in a 15 will handle even more. You will need the 17" to clear stoptechs, though.

Thanks for the info. Approx 700whp ...maybe more.

What final drive? 3.3 with a 28" tire would probably be ideal for 700-750whp.

UPDATE:

Just bought a pair of 16x8 RX7 FD wheels and MT ET Street Radials 265/50/16 from ALWAYSNBOOST.

I figure i can take off the 275/35 R888s and throw my stock 18s with 225s on the front with the MT radials in the back and be good to go.

Anyone know where this fuse is that you have to pull to do a standing burnout?

Brake light fuse. Look at the diagram.
