Default Smallest Rim size on Brembo Cars?

So I have been seeing a number of different posts in my searches for guys running smaller wheels, varying widths, etc...

One thing I keep running into a snag trying to find though is, with the Brembo owners such as myself what is the smallest size rim you can get away with in what widths also. I'm pretty sure 17's seem to be common, but what about 16's? I know the 15's do not.

That being said, if the 16's and 17's do clear the Brembos, do the width restrictions change in comparison to an 18 or 19 with street tires?

Ultimately my goal is to run a set of MT or Hoosier street radials for going to the strip. This is definitely my weakest link, so any and all help greatly appreciated.

It also depends on offset as well.

Wheel-tire width is flexible with a street radial. You still must fit the tire under the car, but lots of possibilities. Only possible tire restriction might be a "class" restriction for competing such as 10.0 inch tire. If you are doing test and tune you will be fine. If you intend to compete, be aware of class restrictions.

I didn't get too close of a look, so no way to say which brakes it had but there was a Z running OEM S14 16 x 6.5s at the local drag strip.

are you trying to get a matching set of wheels front or rear? The rear caliper has vastly different clearance requirements vs the front

you then get into the reality of the situation, that the smaller the wheel, typically, the narrower the width range. There are far more 18x10's than there are 17x10's, and so on. The smaller you go in diameter, the more a multipiece wheel becomes your only option, so budget becomes a concern as well. There are wheels that can be made in 16x15 if you so desire (no, it wont just bolt on ), just comes down to math, but from a clearance standpoint, and a budget standpoint

There are 17in rims that exist that will clear oem brembo's. OEM 17's are one of them.

I'm not trying to match up wheels per say in terms of front to rear. These would be a set of wheels for just the strip, or say a pre-set event on a Friday night.

My thought, which may be wrong, is to run like a set of E/T street radial at a 275/40 R17, but if I can go with a 16 in the rear per say, and a 296/50 R16, then I have more sidewall.

The goal is to be able to side step the clutch, hook and go... But this is not my forte in wheels by any means. Do you have any recommendations for wheel sizes that would clear the rear and not require changes to suspension/ fenders?

its not necessarily a size thing, but a specific wheel thing - more than just diameter and width affect brake clearance

there are numerous wheels that will work, all depends on budget and if you have a particular style in mind.

most people just use the FD rx7 16" wheels. they clear the brakes just barely and can run a 10" slick on them.

CCW makes some really nice 16" drag wheels. All the supra guys run those to clear their TT brakes.
