I'm looking to sell my wheels locally but just in case someone wants them shipped, i have to consider that.
How do you guys ship out 18" stock rims safely as far as packaging, and sending through which company? How much am i looking to spend for shipping?
thanks in advance

Go to Tire Rack. Pick 4 wheels. Enter zip code. Calculate shipping. What Tire Rack pays for shipping is what you can expect to pay.

Go to your local wheel shop and get 4 of their throw away boxes. Package one wheel in each box. Bring four boxes to FedEx Kinkos, and use their tape to tape TWO boxes together, making two packages. The dimensions will stay under the maximum, and you'll save some bucks. I do it this way all the time. You can also use their computer free-of-charge to make a label - that may only be if you have a shipping account. Otherwise you can just hand write a label (2 labels) while you're there. Use a lot of tape - it's allowed. Shipping cost will depend on how far they are going, but individual wheels (as 4 boxes) are usually $25-30, doing them as doubles has ranged in cost for me from $35-40, so you can save $20-50 this way.
Shipping wheels with tires I used styrofoam insulation sheets from Home Depot (The stuff that gets nailed to the outside of a house before the siding goes up. Just cut circles a little wider than the rim and use plastic shipping straps to secure to both sides - aint nothing gonna hurt those rims.
For shipping rims only I have done like scotts300 recommends, but I have also gotten boxes from a furniture store (the ones that office chairs come in) and again lined the top, bottom and sides with styrofoam insulation.

I've never shipped rims via Greyhound, but it might be worth a check. As other have said, get 4 rim boxes and tape two together.
I just shipped a 12' kayak from Fl. to NC, cost $38. Try that one on UPS! I shipped a H2 Hummer grill guard from NC to Fl and it got there in 36 hours, but then again, the kayak took 8 days. It all depends on how much freight each bus is carrying. It could sit in a depot for a day or two.
I wouldn't ship nice stuff like rims through greyhound. When my bumper came through greyhound the box was all dented and the bumper had some scratches on it. I think they just throw the package underneath and throw the luggage on top of it.
I've shipped tires through ups and it was fine.
