Default budget tire with maximum grip

I'm lookin for a set of tires that have excellent grip. For a decent price but longevity of the tire is no concern. My z is not my dd so grip is my main concern. I'm running stock 18 6 spoke wheels so I had 225/ 245 set up. Can I go wider tires with out having 4x4 status and rubbing? All input greatly appreciated!

i put on hankook ventus v12's, and love them... super grippy, quiet... and they have some stacked sizes... bought them through discount tire.com, and they were even doing a 60 dollar rebate... 680 after the rebate...

and i went a size bigger up front, and two in the back, and they look great. 245/40/r18's up front, 265/40/r18s in the back. tire guy said i could easily go another size bigger in the rear next time, so i would shoot for a 275.

Is discount tire probably the best place to look for tires or a local dealer, or is it broad asit is long and only shopping around will tell? Thanks for the input I would like to go wider. I found 5 wheels just like my stock 18 6 spokes for 335 4 having tpms sensor so ima paint them gloss black and I need tires for them.

cheapest tires with maximum grip with no concern for longevity would be used track tires.

Nitto NT05, Nitto NT01, Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, Hankook Ventus RS3 and Kumho Ecsta XS. I use the NT05 but my car is also daily driven so the wear factor of these tires comes into play for me as the tread depth is only 6/32 of an inch. The favorite of these that I've found from my friends that I autox with are the Ventus RS3's and I've always heard great things about the Dunlops as well.

Any reason why I've yet to hear any of you Z guys run Falken FK452's?

I had them on my TL a couple of times and really liked them

+1 for the v12's but you could probably get more grip from a used race tire.

My set was right at $1000 for 305 / 255

Im looking pretty seriously at the Nitto NT05's. Ill check star specs and ventus also! I'm considering running 275 40 rear and 245 40 front on stock 18 six spokes. (would love to see a picture. I've done the calculation and its the same height as stock tires but wider. 4x4 status on stock suspension ) I do not dd my car so tire life would only be a plus. I don't drag my car, but possibly a little auto x and the usually spirited mountain run. I don't get her out in the rain very much either. But I do get caught out occasionally so that's the reason I don't want track tires.

Hankook RS3 or Dunlop Star Specs are your best budget grippy tires. I use them as back-up track tires for when/if I cord a Hoosier.

You can go 245/40/18 front and 245/45 rear. You could push to 255/40 all around, but I like the 245/40 / 245/45 combo for you.

The R1R's are probably the least expensive, but they are more autocross oriented. I'd buy the RS3's or Star Specs, however.

6 spokes are 18x8 front and rear. I would run nothing bigger than 245 on them.

I'd go with the RS3s, they're cheaper then star specs and way better, I think they're cheaper then NT05s, too, not 100% sure about that.

Debatable. Star Specs are a great tire...particularly in cooler weather. The RS3 is hands down the better choice in the hot, though.
