Default Rota Torque Question

I have found two pics with different # holes..same bolt pattern for Z.

This one on E bay has only 5 holes:

This one shows 10, which is what I've seen here on cars.

I think 5 hole looks a hell of a lot better. Is this really available in 5 hole pattern as shown on e bay?

I think the five hole are Rota Torque rims while the 10 hole are actually Work Emotion CR Kais.

The 1st picture is not a rota wheel. It's a knock off of a knock off. The Rotas have 10 holes. Work also have 10 holes. I have owned both.

From a glance at the Rota website (who would have thought to look there), it looks like the 17's have only 5 holes while most of the 18's have the extra holes (for some type of weight reduction I suppose).

You could also contact "wheeldude" on here to find out exactly what the difference is.

See if you can explain this then:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18x9-...mZ330576905422

Maybe it's a generic pic of a Rota? It's supposed to be a real pic of the item (18") on sale.

They bore more holes for different applications. That's why I was surprised to see only 5 holes on this E bay pic.

By "bore more holes for different applications" do you mean that the 5 "extra" holes are to mount the wheel on some other platform? If so, you are wrong my friend.

To explain myself, look at the 2nd picture in the OP. 5 of the holes are straight through. They have no lip for a lug nut to tighten against the wheel. These holes are either to save weight or to allow the use of spacers (if the spacers are too thin the factory studs will protrude). The other 5 holes obviously taper which allows the nuts to grasp the wheel.

What makes you think those can't have lips added as required? I say they bore 10 holes to accomodate different applications..adding lips where needed.

The wheel pictured in the Ebay add is a Rota Torque in 17x9 fitment. A-Spec wheels (a pretty poor vendor IMO) likely can't tell the difference and selected the wrong photo for their add

The second picture in the original post is what the 18x9.5 wheel actually looks like. This model does have 10 holes however only 5 are machined for lugs. The extra holes are for weight savings and aesthetic purposes.

Thanks..that's what I thought..
BTW here's the reason for extra holes..it's neither of the two you mentioned..these are *multifit* wheels

http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...=1#post2802620

It's hard for a manufacturer to make a universal plug for the unused holes. I know a lot of people don't like the extra holes created for multi-fit wheels. Brake dust builds up in the pockets.

We've actually hogged the holes out to save weight on the Forgeline ZX3R wheel.

There are some companies that make plastic lugs to fill the holes on display wheels.

No problem!

And it's exactly for the reason's I mentioned I used to work with Rota Wheels and have been at the plant in the Philippines discussing various models. The Rota Torque is definitely not a multifit wheel (hence the other 5 holes not having machining for lug nuts). The extra holes are for weight savings and when I said "aesthetics" I really meant to get a closer look to the Work Emotion

This isn't the case for some wheels.

If you really machine a wheel like this to fit your car... stop spending money and start saving, broke-***.

Thanks don avoN7 for verifying absolutely everything I said in post 5.

To the OP, if you're not going to listen to anybody don't even post a question.

I guess you didn't READ the entire thread?
I acknowledged that my question was answered..we just got on another
topic about WHY there are extra holes. Had nothing to do with my question.....
which was whether these rims came wth 5 holes or 10.
The consensus seems to be they add holes to reduce weight or whatever, but these are not MULTIFIT. I know that most rims have extra holes for that purpose, but issue is kinda *academic* at this point.
