bad experience in the snow here in MD last time it snowed a couple weeks ago. Can anyone reccomend a good and inexpensive winter tire?

Not sure what your budget is, but it seems that most people on this forum (myself included) are riding on Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22's. They're the first snow tires I've ever bought, and they've been great so far. I got caught in a snowstorm with them last Sunday, and they totally saved my @ss. Highly reccommended

Have you tried calling the tire rack? They're strictly phone/internet on the sales side...however, they have a network of agreements with local tire shops around the country who they'll ship your order to for installation. Check out their website for details.

I have a set of 225/45R17 Yokohama 721 Guardex, mint condition.

One problem - they're not the exact size of my stock Z tires (225/50/17 and 235/50/17).

Any thoughts as to would this work?

Try Discount Tire - North Carolina looks like the closest store unfortunately - but they do Mail order, as does Tirerack - you may run into soldout condition on lots of the sizes at this time of year. You can go Blizzak WS50's - (tirerack fixed me up with these), but you have to go 17" ++better traction than LM22 - lesser speed rating - a bit softer handling ++advantage of ~ $120 each vs $200+ for LM22's. Took me a week to get used to the feel of the WS50's (vs. 18" Potenzas)and then back to aggressive driving as usual. Either way a new set of dedicated rims make sense if you keep the Z for a few years. I have a set of WS50's on a Maxima - used them 4 seasons and still going strong (12,000 miles per year - maybe 5,000 per winter). Hope this helps.

Help! Need winter tires and everyone seems to be out. I've got a track version so I'm looking for the 225/45/18 and 245/45/18's. I tried Tire Rack, Discount Tire, and Belle Tire. Everyone is out of stock!

Recommendations on places to check? Our winter in Michigan is quickly approaching.

Thanks!

I have the Blizzaks and bought from TireRack.com. I love the tires and they were shipped promptly to my door for relatively cheap ($26 or so shipping for a PAIR). I highly recommend the Blizzaks and TireRack. With install and everything, my total was near $1000. Well worth the money.

I got a set of 16's for my non-brembo Z:

4x Toyo Observe G02+ tires
4x FRDracing allow rims

Doesn't look great, but it's better than steelies, and it only cost me 1400 cdn (about 1000 USD).

btw, setup works great in the snow... i live in Toronto and I've survived a month of winter so far without ABS or VDC turning on even once in heavy snow... so that speaks for itself

Not a lot of help, but if you end up going the 17" wheel route I have a mint set of 4 Yokohama Guardex 225/45/W17 very good snows, over $700 new, less than 4k miles, $450 for the set, or offer...

Thanks.

I'm still hoping to find snow tires for the stock track rims.
