Recommend a good AutoX/Street Tire
Hi Guys,
2008 350z GT. Ran AutoX Canadian Provincal series last year (rookie) and some local events on stock Potenzas. Looking to run again this year. Do not want to swap the tires at the event, just run and go home. Looking to get at least 20,000 miles, and we run from April until Sept since we have cold and snow.
Toyo R1Rs seem like a good fit have any of you ran them street and AutoX? What kind of milage are you getting per six months? There is no guarantee on mileage and are not discounted by our racing club so any other suggestions?

You won't get 20k out of R1R's. They wear the fastest of all the top tier street tires. Only one that will useful life after about 8-10k might be the Re-11's, but they are expensive.
Secondly, R1R's don't like heavy cars. The initial compound (it's a two compound tire) is very sticky, but the second is not. Once you wear through to the second compound, the tire is garbage. The sidewalls are also not as stiff as Star Specs or Re-11's. The current hot tire is the Hankook RS-3, but that tire LOVES heat. Might not be best suited to the northern climate. I'd take the dunlop star specs if I were in your position.

Thinking of running stock width ,Front: 245/40R18, Rear: 265/35R19
and use the stock rims the steelrays look nice and cost me 0 dollars
.
Limitations, tires are not affected in class unless you run wider than stock by some amount, not sure what that is. Class movement is really affected by engine and suspension/handleing upgrades.
The Dunlops seem to be recurring recommondations as I posted the same question on CASC-OR (our racing webpage) and another driver came to the same result. Had no idea the 350z was conciered heavy and that would be a factor, interesting.
Mileage is more important than performance for me as I can not afford 2 sets of tires per season.
This being my second year, I am still not really caring about winning my class, rather learning how to better exicute the course and getting faster.

I dont know of many high performance tires that will last 20k miles, no less if they're being taken to AutoX events.
It actually might be less expensive for you to pick up a set of 17s and get tires than it would be to get tires on the factory rims, and if you dont really care about winning any class it wont matter anyways. Just my .02

any high performance summer tire will do if your area does not rain very often... if rain is an issue then dunlop star specs or kumho xs (if your on a budget). the rs3's i hear are especially greasy when cold so i'd be careful with those up north as far as daily driving.
I'd rather run on A6's than XS's in the rain....they too are poop in the wet.

I have em....stick like glue..very stiff sidewalls too. They will also hold up in the rain...but not snow. There is an all season version as well...RA version.
I don't know why people have even mentioned Star Specs after the OP posted that he is running a 19 inch rear. Last i checked, they are only available in 18 inch sizes.
You're not going to get 20K on any of the top-tier street tires like the ones mentioned here.
I'd say R-S3s would be your best bet, but if you're more concerned about tread life, then maybe you should look into the V12s or something in that tire class.
