Default Value-Priced Tires

First season with the G35, and i've been trying to find out what's a good tire to mount for the first season. I'll be roasting the tires pretty good this season before I buckle down and get into sticky tires, so I want something that will last, but still be half decent for summer wet/dry.

I know a lot of guys run the Fuzion and have great things to say about how long they last, but they don't make these in a 19".

Any advice? I want to spend as little as possible, considering I'll probably need tires after one,... MAYBE one and a half seasons.
I'm having issues finding anything to run the staggered set up without stretch or changing OD too much.

Lil help

Thanks in advance guys.

Well that's a good way to get the ball rolling here. Thanks.

Oh. I just realized after a year + of membership I've never actually posted, so this is my first post, now I understand why you're being that way.....

Sorry I don't do cheap tires. My safety is more important than cheap.

Since this isn't posted in the Drifting, Autocross or Regional section; I assume you're talking about spring season?

I agree with you, I want something that still has grip, as mentioned. As most know, price doesn't mean something is better or worse either. Those Fuzions were very cheap, but did a fantastic job and lasted forever. As mentioned that's not an option, I'm hoping for something of an equivalent.

It's not like I'm asking about putting used tires or wrecker tires on my car, and I'm not really cheaping out I just don't want to waste the money, knowing this season will be tough on tires as I learn the car and get used to beginner AutoX if I decide to do it this year.

What I mean is simply a tire that has high wear qualities, decent traction, and is cheap. Something that would be good perhaps for a budget minded AutoX beginner.

Because drift spec is so very different, asking in that section would not really do me any good. And I'm street driving this car, with intentions to do a few AutoX races (1-3) this spring/summer/fall driving season.

If you think Fuzion tires do a fantastic job you have a whole world awaiting you when you discover tires that actually are fantastic.

My friend had Fuzions on his S2000 and hated them. He was scared to drive it in rain because it would just slide everywhere while turning, braking or light acceleration.

A good cheap tire is a Falken FK452. But in 19's, I wouldnt expect to pay less than $1000 for a new set of any brand.

Edit: AutoX with 19inch rims is for someone else to comment on....

^ LOL. I will be looking for other rims if I decide to really get into it of course. Really, the AutoX comment was more because I will be driving the car harder than normal for the first little bit. Despite the direction this thread is going, I'm actually aware that 19" rims and crappy tires aren't the best for AutoX.
It may sound silly, I know, but I'm just trying to see if anything is going to let go before I spend much money on it. Aside from having it fully inspected, I want to know the in's and out's of it on more than a visual level. I don't expect you all to understand or agree with that, it's cool either way.

I know that there are at least a few hundred thousand better tires out there than Fuzions. But for my application, I want something that will last when abused, and the fuzions do that. When I'm more accostomed to the car, and ready to get the car handling, braking, etc, to it's full potential, I'll be shelling out the money for actual nice tires.

I see how this is getting taken, and I fully understand. Please just take a breather and try to HELP. If you guys have a better option by all means, voice it, that's why I'm out here asking the guys who know better than I.

OAN: I will be paying about $1000 regardless, due simply to the fact that Canada sucks when purchasing most things, but especially tires. By the time I get them here and installed even the cheapest tire will cost me a Grand.

This looks good, smack dab in the price range I'd like to see roughly. Any personal experience with them, reason for suggesting?

Thanks for the suggestion man!

I am aware I could just buy the cheapest tires buy you guys have experience with them on this chassis, and in this tire size range. Not many car's out there running 18s and 19s staggered that would run a cheaper tire let alone notice anything about it, including wear qualities.

I had them on my old VSXX's... Quiet, cheap, and easily available.

EDIT:

I'm also comparing these to Michelin SS and Michelin PS2's that are on my TE37's now.

I was running 245/35-19 and 275/35-19 hankook v12's on my old volks, they sound like what you're looking for. Bfg kdw2 would be a good tire for you to look into as well.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I'll check with the local tire boys here to see about costs, otherwise I'll probably try tire rack for these.
Thanks again, I'll run with a few of those series listed and track down more info on them before deciding.

Thank's for pointing this out man, I have been swamped and haven't touched the profile since joining over here a year ago. I'll get at it tonight thanks for the heads up! Also as hinted at, the G is new to me but I plan on keeping this car for some time to come if everything checks out.

For the purpose of this thread: 2003 G35 6MT Sedan, rims are listed in OP

I think Hankook Ventus V12s offer great performance for their price point. They leave a bit to be desired when pushed hard though. Michelin Pilot Super Sports, Bridgestone RE-11s, or Hankook R-S3s are what I'd go for as far as a more track oriented tire.

Ok I made it out to the local tire guys around me, and got a quote of $1267 installed and balanced for the Yokohama ENvigor. The reviews on this tire are kind of lousy, but that seems in bulk to Yokohama marketting them as a "all season", which is clearly a load of crap.

That's fine for me I don't want them in the snow season anyways. Mixed reviews on other fronts. But these are the cheapest option to keep prices within reason buying locally.

My other option is to go with the Hankook V12 suggested in the rear and the Mich. Pilot SS in the front. I don't want to mix it up, and chances are, I won't, but this is the closest price comparison I can make to the local deal on the Yokohama's. It'll cost about $1200 for this set up by the time I get them shipped and installed, and that's the bottom line price for installation, almost makes me nervous paying $35 per tire when it's 19" aluminum rims.

Any thoughts or considerations, most specifically perhaps, on the Yokohama ENvigor? Anyone with experience with this tire? The more I research, it feels, the further down the rabbit-hole I go. Which is fine, I just need to make this first decision soon if I'm ordering online.
