Default Curb Rash on Expensive Wheels?

I've been looking for new wheels for the Z and I've been looking here and CL as well. I'm not Looking to spend a ton of money but one thing I don't get about people with expensive wheels. How on earth do you allow 3000.00 wheels to get curbed?? I mean if you're selling wheels used for 2400.00 I assuming you paid over 3k for them, then you allow them to get curbed.... I don't get it. I've spent less than 1000.00 on my last set of wheels and I never curbed them. To be honest I don't think I ever curbed a wheel. How do you feel when you curb a 700.00-800.00 wheel?

Lol. I know this seems stupid but its kind of a serious question. Look thru CL and see some of the high end wheels that look like they've been in Iraq.

My thoughts exactly: well, I still rather have a curbed up $800 wheel than a piece of trash $250 wheel in perfect condition.

I spent over 3k on wheels and happened to me by not seeing a very slight slope / raise handicap side walk that extends into a parking lot. being that it was same material as the parking lot and not painted made it near impossible to notice, until you hear bang.
followed by "g@dd@mn $#!t mokeybutt loving"
Also some of the "curbs" might actually be from potholes or unexpected road work where its a case of it being too late to avoid and just have to take the hit.

Oh yeah I never thought of pot holes doing it.

I know no one does this on purpose, but I have to say its amazing to me how bad some of the wheels Ive seen look. Maybe Im just super paranoid of any thing like that. I work hard for the mods I do to my car and I really baby it (just ask my wife) so I try not to park in places that might damage my car.

remember a while back, in my integra then, on a cruise road trip heading from orlando over to tampa on I4 for a show, they had just "finished" some work on a overpass so the slabs didnt sit flush and was about a good 3 inch 90 degree lift that you had to hit at that point at about 60-70mph. it busted my front tire but luckly I had a some good thicker tires on there that it didnt damage my wheel too bad. few of the others guys with lower profile tires got busted tires and bent, cracked and rashed wheels from the next few hundred feet stopping and pulling over to the side and median. by mid-morning there were about 10-15 cars lined up with busted tires/wheels. had to buy 5 tires as a couple buddies didnt have cash to pay the shop/truck that came out to help us.

Curb rash happens to the best of us, even if you are super careful

Nowadays there are tons of reputable wheel repair shops so this is really not something to get your jimmies that rustled about

I curbed mine once turning into a gas station the car that was leaving pulled into the middle as I was coming in. I had to cut in a lot sharper to miss them and nailed the curb with my right rear. Thank god they're just used TSW's I bought on craigslist.

Mine appears to have a slight "curb" rash on a small area because i hit a cone in auto-x. Anything at high speed that hits the wheel can cause damage. just some battle wounds!

I just curb rashed my front passenger side a month ago. Guess what? I'm not bothered by it.

It's just going to take me about 2-3 hrs of wet sanding/polishing to fix it, but I don't let it ruin my day

See I never thought about some of this stuff. I would be so pissed if some thing like this happened to me.

Sometimes it's people who just can't drive worth a crap

I bought my car with perfect fronts, and moderately curbed rears. The guy I bought it from LITERALLY put a big curb on the passenger rear when he parked the car in the airport garage coming to pick me up to close the deal. I walked around the car, saw bad curb rash with cement dust in it, with yellow paint, and looked 3 feet back and saw a matching chunk torn out of the yellow painted curb!

When I had the mobile wheel repair guy fixing them, he told me he has several "regular customers". One he mentioned was a "young rich lady" who drives a RangeRover with HRE's, that he says she curbs all the time, and she pays him to come refinish them several times a year.......
