Best Tires For The Beast??
I've been away from the forums for awhile and I haven't put that many miles on my Z lately. My car makes enough power to eat back tires fairly regularly. I've run 6 or 7 different tires on the car and have had some real hits and misses. The Continental Extremes I have on it now suck, while the B.F. Goodrich KD-W 2s seemed to work really well. Go figure. What's the forum consensus for best handling/wear/price/noise? I searched first and didn't really find any threads that addressed my question.
I'm not trying to find the cheapest, decent tire. I'm willing to pay what it takes. Let's pretend money is no object (wouldn't that be nice!)
For starters, is anybody running the new BFG g-Force Sport Comp 2s?

Who has the RS3? I didn't see it on either TireRack or Discount Tire. Maybe it's not offered in 255/35/R19 & 285/35/R19? The last set of Goodyears I ran went away in no time. It was like the compound was completely different after I wore through the first 1/3 of the tread. I don't think they lasted 6,000 miles. Maybe I'll give the Pilot Sports another look. Nobody has any comments about the B.F. Goodrichs?

I'm running the RS3's. Very happy with them. I probably have over 5000miles at this point with about 3 or 4 track days and I think they should definitely last me the rest of the year.
Very happy with them, a bit noisy on the street but it is what is is. I sort of like the noise.

PS2's (another vote)
I'm on my 2nd set of Pilot Super Sports, and will continue (as long as I can afford it) to buy them. Impressed with both dry/wet traction.

If you're looking for better treadwear for rear tires, look at Sumitomo HRZ II's...they're cheap, somewhat of a soft sidewall for comfort, and they have decent enough grip. The newer model has better stick, but they're much more money.
Hankook Ventus V12's are the best daily driver in my opinion for comfort, but they'll wear very fast if your alignment isn't right on. They hold the road very nicely.
For front tires, the long lasting budget choice might be the Federal SS595's, but they're not made anymore I don't think? Might still find them on ebay or something, or again...Sumitomo's would be another great choice.
Pilot Sports are great too, as everyone has said already.
RS-3's will wear out really fast, and I know your "money is no object" was just a joke in way to get everyone's input on what's the best tire period, I know you're going to decide from there according to your budget, so RS-3's might not be your best bet.
I've never run BFG's...sorry.
Some potenzas are really good too....tirerack is your best bet..scour their reviews from people with 350z's.

Was just on tirerack myself...found that Hankook now has Ventus V12 evo 2's...a new version of the Ventus V12.
Here's an interesting quote:
"My son works as a BMW/Mini technician. The Hankooks are the buzz with most of his customers. Many are switching from Michelin Pilots to the Hankook Evo 2's. Assuming these tires were as well as they are rated and continue to perform, I would definitely purchase another set."
They are not known for extremely long tread life though...I'd guess 12000 to 15000 miles, others have seen over 20,000, but it depends on how you drive of course.

I've got 295 kdw2's on the rear and 265 sport comp 2's up front and I'm happy with them so far. I haven't taken them to the track yet, but I can't say anything bad about them so far.

I am on my second set of KDWs and love them. The grip is awesome, especially for the price. The wear is also very good, much better than my Potenzas. Did a few autoX events with them and the car sticks. I find with these tires they are very predictable in terms of knowing where the limit is. When I autoX I usually learn on the 2nd or 3rd run exactly the limit for each turn. Very consistent throughout the day, even with rising temps.
Only complaint is they are a tad noisy. They hum at low speed. But your car is probably noisy so you wouldn't even notice.

Continental Extreme Contact DW. I never drive my car in the winter so max performace for summer is all I want.

I've had my Z awhile and I switched wheels and tires four times before I found the perfect setup for me. I don't want to vary from the tire size I'm running, so that probably eliminates the RS3s. The roadster is noisy, no matter what tires you run, so that's a non-issue. I'll have to pay more attention to the Pilot Sports and Super Sports. I've already run Nittos, Hancooks, Coninentals, and Goodyears. I didn't particularly like any of them. I appreciate all the feedback!

I was kind of surprised nobody championed the RE 760 Sport or the S-04? I remember when the S-03 Pole Position was getting a lot of attention....My how things change. One of my buddies who spends a lot of time at the track was telling me how much he hates both Goodyear and B.F.Goodrich. I think a lot of it depends on what you're doing with your car. I have a really short commute (8 miles R/T), so I can get away with pretty sticky tires. The hard part is keeping my foot out of it:-(
