Anyone run a 265 square setup? I'm looking at getting a set of track v2's in the spring but getting 4 front 18x9's instead of the 18x9f and 19x10r. I was thing a 265/40 setup would work. Thoughts?

what are your concerns? 265 square set up will work. im running 275 and l love it. obviously straight line acceleration isnt as good as a 275f 295r, but the cornering balance is alot better. its all a trade off

265/35-18 square is the choice for the Japanese track cars for some odd reason.

With those wheels, I would do 255/40-18 square

My only concern was the width of running 265's in the front, but if you're running 275's I don't guess it's a problem.

Why 255 instead of 265? Just curious.

More suitable than 265 for the wheel width. Cheaper. More available.

As for 265 up front. It depends on your offset. You could rub the control arms or if your offset are low, it can rub the fenders.

actually I run a 285/35-18 front tire.

265/40-18 is a bit tall for the front and its an odd size. I try stick to more popular sizes.

Default Hey

I was wondering for future knowledge I was planning on getting 20x9 and 20x10 inch aftermarket rims. I'm going for aggressive tires. And was wondering about what offset should I get so I can get my tires flush with the fendors.

That's a very difficult question to answer definitively without knowing:

1. Your definition of "aggressive tires". You talking about stretch with camber or significantly "meaty"?

2. Your plans for suspension? Stock, sensible lowering for performance or eliminating bump stops and running purely for stance/appearance?

Both of these things affect what type of offset to run... a +15-20 sensible lowering with sensible tires (255/285) or a +0 for use with -3 camber and 245s on those 10s...

IOW, more detail on where you want to take your car = more definitive info.

Actually I was just planning to get flush with the fender and I am planning on getting coilovers.

So... not much camber then?

Look in the +20-27 offset range.

I would do a 245/40-18 front and 245/45-18 rear, just for a better handling setup.

Would the front feel less responsive if you go with a 45 profile in the front instead of the 40?

Feel will be close to the same depending on sidewall construction.

I'm just not a fan of running that tall of a front tire

That is my track setup. On 18x9.5 RPF1s. 265/35/18 Hankook RS-3. 2007 Enthusiast with add-on OEM Brembos, o/w stock.

No clearance issues at all. No spacers. This set up, square, incapacitates TC. Even on the street it acts up. It is driveable on the street but TC will interfere a fair amount. On track TC has to be off.

My next set of tires will be 265/40s. I get what terrasmak is saying but: I've driven 265/40s on track and on the street and everything is fine. Hankook makes the RS-3 in that size. TC issues are less with a square set up and, at the tracks I go to the effective final drive ratio is better with the 265/40s. With the 265/35s I'm hitting revs where it is just a tad too late to shift before the corner. With the 265/40's I don't need to shift at all approaching the corner and get better legs in 5th with long straights like VIR. Not sure any of that made sense, but to be clear, that is a track specific issue and it does come at the cost of some revs coming out of tight corners.
