Default Tire mismatch

My 2006 touring roadster should have 225/45/18 on front and 245/45/18 on rear. Someone screwed up and both front and back are mismatched with 225 and 245 on each side. Mismatch is diagonal. I bought the car about a month ago from carmax and just noticed it. Tires seem to be at about 50% worn. Will see what carmax will do about this they should have caught this. Swapping the tires diagonally is probably not acceptable. What do you think?

Well, two possibilities.... someone just put the wrong wheel/tire in the wrong positions - which I'm betting on - because if the tires are half done, odds are carmax didn't put the tires on.... they were on when they took the car in.

Second possibility - some airhead put the wrong tire on the wrong wheel. 225 on the rear wheel and/or vice verse.

Have them check for the latter while they're pulling the wheels off. Either way, they gotta fix it.

the wheels are all the same and will fit both size tires.

That's a new one on me.... hasn't been a non-staggered set since the original Touring 1 wheels *that I'm aware of*. Maybe I've just never paid attention to the later wheels enough.

In any event then, if what you said is true - that you have a square set - then obviously it's just in the wrong place. Why bother taking it back then? Just jack it up and swap 'em.

Assuming these are the touring V2s They are 18x8 on the front and 18x8.5 on the rear. Sounds like someone tried to rotate tires and didn't look at the sizes.

Tires were not rotated properly. CarMax took care of it. Before, the SLIP indicator came on and tires spun. Problem resolved. CarMax should have identified this prior to sale, but took care of it after sale, so all is good. Perhaps the 1,945,489,579 point inspection should add a point or two! Checking to see if the tires are the correct sizes would probably be worth checking! At least they took care of the issue.
