Running wider rubber on stock rims
#41
Looks nice. You guys almost had me convinced to go to the wider wheels.
Finally got concerned about safety and I'm sticking with the OEM sizes. Ah, maybe a little wimpy, but I'd rather get some bigger wheels first.
Thanks for an interesting thread!

These wider Nittos handle superb, more meat on the pavement. They handle very precise, i can feel the difference, and are extremely quiet. Btw, the tread on the Nitto NT 555's is "deep", and with a 300 treadwear rating i hope they last a while. We'll see how the fronts due on the feathering issue.....believe me, i've been there! Cost: $798 incl installation, road hazard warranty(pro-rated), lifetime balance & flat repair. Good luck on your search.

i need a little input:
which tire size is better for drag racing on track rims:
265/40R18
or
275/35R18
The top one has more sidewall flex, but the bottom one adds .5" per side of width...
Again, mounting these of track rims, which will be better?
tia,
m
ps: the tires i am looking at are BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial

I wish i could answer that for you. I'm sure one of these auto-x gurus can help you. If no one answers here, just post a thread and you should have a quick reply.

Where did you purchase these from?

I am running toyp proxes on my track rims 275/40/18 on back and 245/40/18 on front they look mean i bought them from edgeracing.com they have the best prices for tires i could find. I am still thinking about going with some 19 inch volks later but for now they look good i wish nissan made the rear rim a 9 inch what a bunch of idiots it would have made all of our lives much easier with slapping a 275 on the rear oh well later guyz

The wheel width of the tire should be 70% of the section width (not tread width) of the tire. This properly aligns the bead of the tire to transfer the weight of that wheel load to the shoulders of the tread to reduce the side wall rolling over during hard cornering. 12" section width = 8.4" wheel. Lower profile tires have a section width that is closer to the tread width. This set up also reduces feathering that can develop when super wide tires are used on light cars.
