I am also looking to replace my OEM Potenza RE040 with the F1 GS D3.
I have read hundreds of reviews on the GS D3 on tirerack.com and about 95% are positive. That in itself is impressive.
The only thing that keeps poping up in the negative reviews is a reported tendancy for the F1 to feel mushy / squirmy on turn in on twisty roads. These coments are generally made when comparing to SO2's, SO3's and Michelin Pilot Sports - tyres made for outright handling, with stiff sidewalls for good control on switchback roads.
But I would really like to know how you guys rate the GS D3 in terms of turn-in response and sudden switch-back steering compared with the OEM Potenza's.
Also, any other comments on teh GS D3's abilities in various driving conditions would be appreciated.
Finally how do you rate the tyre noise from the GS D3 compared to RE040?

1. Run the GS tires with a higher air pressure to increase sidewall stiffness. Others in this thread have suggested 37 pounds.
2. I rate it the same between the two tires. Tire pressure (as it is at the track) is important.
3. Rain and wet performance of the GS is heads and shoulders better than competing ultra high performance summer tires.
4. GS is slightly quieter than the RE040.
I am coming up on 20,000 miles of travel on my Eagles including track sessions at New Hampshire International Speedway and Willow Springs Raceway.

As the sidewall can be stiffened, I'll increase the psi on the Goodyears to maintain steering responsiveness.
The quieter ride is a real bonus as I am sick of the roar of the RE040's.
Also, good to see that the mileage is good for the GS D3. I currently have 22,000km (not miles) on the RE040's and they may get me to 25,000km by the time the treadwear indicator is hit.
Seeing that you have 20,000 miles on the GSD3's, have you noticed an increase in tyre noise with increasing mileage, or a decrease in dry / wet performance with increasing mileage?
Also, how do you split your city / highway mileage (I'm 9:1 ratio but I also had 1 track day and 2 drag days in the last year).

My city/highway driving ratio is about 3/7.

With the amount of city driving I do, I won't get the mileage out of the GS D3's that you get. But it is somewhat reassuring to see that you estimate between 35-50% better mileage from the Goodyears. If that factor also translates to my treadwear on the GS D3's, then I'll be very satisfied.
