My tires are dead
So its been about a year that I’ve had the z... my tires are bald at 17024 miles. I wanted to buy some Michelin pilot sport a/s tires (I have the stock 17'' 7 spoke rims: 225/50R17 94w, and 235/50r17 96w). But when I saw the pricing I couldn't believe my friggin eyes: $279 for the front, and $294 for rear. Is this normal pricing or am I getting ripped off???? Also, do you guys think I should stick with the stock tires, I mean, is there going to be any real noticeable difference in performance? I live in the LA area, if any of you guys know of a better price/tire I would greatly appreciate it!

Re: My tires are dead
Check out your local Discount Tire, or try discounttiredirect.com . They charge about $200 a tire for the Michelin's which is about as cheap as they come!

I just put Pilots on my 350 and they were in the high twos. They look sweet and handle great. My original Potenzas developed an inside wear on the fronts after 15,000 miles. I hope that Nissan is looking at this problem.

Thanks for the tip. I got that info. from this site, like you said. I guess its something a lot of z owners are going to have to deal with. Nissan is testing the love..8) Good luck with your tire search. Most are going to be pretty expensive due to the car and the different sizes from front to rear.

Yes, new tires make a HUGE difference in handling. The stock re040's are crap. After some S03's I now see the stock handling potential of the Z's suspension setup.

Are you saying you bought the tires and applied them onto the stock wheel, or do you mean you just bought brand new rims-n-tires (going off the picture you have as your sig)? I'm only planning on changing the tires, and keeping the stock rims... i don't have the money to buy my own set of wonderful rays rims.

My front tires lasted 16,000 (two track days and several AutoX's mixed in with mountainous daily driving). I think that's about normal for this car. It sounds like feathering people are lucky to get to 10,000 miles. My rears lasted 20,000 before I needed to replace them.
I decided that I'd cheap out on the street tires (since I bought race tires for the track) and went with Yokohama AVS ES100 fronts and Hankook Ventus K104 in back. I now have passed 32000 miles total (so my new fronts now have 16,000), and the Yok's are just starting to have inside wear. I think they have another few thousand miles in them. Both the Yok's and Hankooks were under $200 each. 245/40 in front and 245/45 in back.
My new rears still look brand new, but they have a whine @ about 50 mph, so I don't think I'll buy them again. I'll probably look into Falken or Kumho for my next set of street tires.

damn you almost have slicks hthere...lol better yet if you like the stock tires, go to your dealer and have them get you 2 new fronts and then youll only have to pay for rears. the new tsb will cover your tires up to 21000 miles. you might have to put a little effort into it but it will save you 400 bucks

damn, i wish i could get 15000 out of a set of rear tires
my drag radials last about 2000 miles (that is a given though)
and i have run Dunlop SP sport W-10's and Yokohoma AVS sports (about 250 a tire) and i get less than 8,000 miles out of those. usually closer to 5000. damn mid engine cars. guess the autocross suspension and alignment dont help, but hey, they should still last longer than that.

I bought the Pilots and still use the stock rims. I like them a little better than most, especially on the z. I have a Brickyard Z and I do not think the chrome goes well with the brushed aluminum on the door. That could be because I'm a little older too. I dunno??
You can not go too wrong with this car. People just about break thier necks just to get a look at them. Can't blame em..

Damn. My stock RE040's almost became slicks and I only have 10500 miles on them now!! Front tire was toasted due to the feathering, (even that dumb TSB alignment and swapping front tires doesn't help at all). I never tracked my car, just some spirited driving in mountain roads over the weekends.
I wonder how long I can last with Toyo T1-S with my new rims..
Urgh...

LOL, I have 24K on the stock rear tires. I was thinking of replacing them with S-03's. Tirerack.com has them for $214 each. I also considered Toyo Proxies but I hear you don't get many miles on them. Are the S-03's much better than the stock Bridgestones?
