Default Anyone running 18" and 19" mixed?

Seems that one way to keep the size difference would be to have 18" front and 19" in rear. I'm not sure the exact sizes that would fit best, maybe 245/40/R18 and 275/35R19. Both of these sizes are available in a Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. The overall tire Diam would be 25.7" and 26.6" almost the same as stock, but more width and lower profile.

Anyone have this kind of setup or please comment on how you think this would work and if it would look ok, seems the best way to avoid the big truck tire look with a 45 profile tire.

Thanks!

No one thinks F: 245/40/19 R: 275/40/19 will be ok?

Oh boy....Ive been over this again and again. Seems as if these shops that 'know everything' really dont know much at all. Most common is found in 19" upgrades when some random shop suggests 245-35-19 with a 275-30-19 rear. THE REAR TIRE IN THIS SITUATION IS SHORTER!

1st issue:
Nissan wants between .5 to .75" stagger front to rear, rear being taller of course.

2nd issue:
you WILL anger vdc, trac, abs

3rd issue:
The dealer doesnt need much reason to try and void your warranty. Ignoring their stagger rule is one thing, doing a rear tire thats shorter is even worse.

4th issue: WAIT!!!!

What About Wheels? I want to stick to 18" Wheels but not stock.

I like ADR Designs M-Sport

Should keep all four the same size or can I go with a 18"x 8.5 (Front) & 18"x 9.5 (rear)
It looks wrong. a 275-30-19 rear is 1.2" shorter in overall diameter than your stock rear tire. Why would you do this?

For most 19" 350 applications you should have a 245-35-19 & 275-35-19 or 285-35-19 rear tire. Anyone who tells you otherwise is mistaken. the 35 series rear may be a bit harder for them to find, or maybe they were told the wrong information. Either way, it is the incorrect setup...and a lot of you on the board have had this mistake happen to you.

Maybe it will cause and issue. Maybe it wont. I sure wouldnt want to find out while going 60 on the highway in the rain in CA when a wrec happens around you and your abs decides to freak out. Just my .02.

Take a look at the calculations below.

this one is stock size rear vs a 275-30-19 rear

this is the 245-35 & 275-30-19 incorrect combo

and here is the correct 245-35 & 275-35 combo

Most commonly 18" upgrades should be
245-40-18 with a 275-40-18 rear

and in 19" it should be
245-35-19 with 275 or 285-35-19 rear.

What is stagger? What units do the tire sizes use (235/35/19)? I know the last number is in inches.

Thank you very much. You have confirmed my belief.

Personally, I do not think it is worth giving up ride quality, for what little is gained, from a performance standpoint, by going to a 19" wheel & tire. Not to mention the extra cost.

The Performance, Track & Nismo S-Tune models all come with, and have been tested using a 225-45-18" (f) & 245-45-18" (r) light weight, "forged", wheel and have outstanding stats.

So the only reason to me, that would make sense, to go to a 19" wheel & tire would be if you are doing it for the looks.

Just for reference, here is a list of some 18" and 19" tire outer diameters:

Stock
225/45-18 = 25.97
245/45-18 = 26.68

Front
225/45-18 = 25.09 (-0.88)
235/40-18 = 25.4 (-0.57)
245/40-18 = 25.72 (-0.25)
255/40-18 = 26.03 (+0.06)

235/35-19 = 25.48 (-0.49)
235/40-19 = 26.40 (+0.43)
245/35-19 = 25.75 (-0.22)
255/35-19 = 26.03 (+0.06)

Rear
245/40-18 = 25.72 (-0.96)
255/40-18 = 26.03 (-0.65)
265/40-18 = 26.35 (-0.33)
275/40-18 = 26.66 (-0.02)

245/40-19 = 26.72 (+0.04)
255/35-19 = 26.03 (-0.65)
255/40-19 = 27.03 (+0.35)
265/35-19 = 26.30 (-0.38)
275/35-19 = 26.58 (-0.10)

To keep the VDC happy and thinking it is stock (because it goes off of wheel speed and different diameters tires spin and different speed), just try to keep the same variations in tire size (i.e. if front = -0.5, rear should be close to -0.5).

Nice set of wheels. What size are they & what brand? I see Nismo, but I don't believe that I've seen these before.

I don't understand why everyone says this. It really makes no sense to me. Perhaps you can clue me into why. Here's my thinking:

In the front, 255/40/18 seems to make more sense than 245/40/18. Look at the numbers:

1) 255/40/18 is almost identical to the stock front 225/45/18 in diameter. As we all know, matching the stock diameters is always a good thing to shoot for. Keeps VDC happy and doesn't mess with your speedometer.

2) A front of 255/40/18 is only 20mm narrower than the typical rear of 275/40/18. The stock setup is 225/45 and 245/45, which is also 20 mm difference. Going with a 245-275 combo gives you a 30mm difference, which would just increase understeer even more.

Given these two important factors, I just don't understand why everyone uses a 245/40/18 front tire instead of a 255/40/18.

I don't believe ABS should be affected since the sensors sense lock up of the brakes. Also VDC will be affected but the change should be minor.

I am looking at getting 18x8 in the front and 18x10 in the rear for wheels. Is this setup ok for vdc? Also what size tires would I need to keep it as close to stock as possible so everything works fine? Thanks for any advice.

It's the tire size that affects things, not the rim size. (Of course, rim size limits your tire selection, so I guess it does come into play a bit.)

A 255/40/18 and 275/40/18 combo is the closest to stock diameters. (Almost perfect.) That's going to be my next size combo when I replace my tires.

I just ordered 265/35/18 (competition) 4 tires. Can I put these on the stock touring rims (18x8.5) or are they too big & should get wider rims? 265mm wide tires are about 10.4 inches wide. I will only be using for autoX & occasional track days.
