Default need opinions on powdercoating

I have to drive the car in the winter and snows here quite a bit. So I have been searching for another set of wheels which i will use for the worm months. After a couple of months of looking i keep coming back to nismos as being the best in weight/look/price. The problem is that i just love the way gun metal wheels look on daytona blue. Hiros and G-games are nice but they weight a ton and i will not be able to put up with that polished lip. So here are my questions:

1. Has anyone powdercoated their nismos? i'd love to see some pictures of them in gun metal.
2. For people that have experience with non-factory powdercoat: how does it hold up? will it scratch easily when the tires are put on? How much would one expect to pay for that?

Thank a bunch

Mine held up great against almost anything. Then this happened. From those in know they believe it was caused by over baking the wheel. After the powdered paint is applied they bake it on the wheel in an oven. From what I understand if the temp. goes above 450 degrees the structure on the aluminum can change resulting in a soft wheel.
Also, from what I've read here on this site is that this is less likely to happen to a forged wheel (although my particular wheel was made using a process called rim rolled forging. go figure)
Anyway, Jason at performance Nissan has a set of powdercoated Nismo's and tracks them and I don't think that he's had any issues to date. Also note that my broken wheel occured at a track event under extreme driving conditions.

your best bet will be to go through performance nissan because they will make the transaction more enjoyable

i just got my wheels powdercoated but i wont have them till thursday

if anything, powdercoating is the strongest finish you can have on a wheel so its the least likely to chip or scratch just as long as your careful
