Default ****... Hit Trash Doing 130 Mph

Life is a b!tch sometimes. I metup with another Z owner in town tonight and we decided to do some runs. He has a stock auto touring and I have a manual performance with popcharger/crankpulley/plenum/hiflocats. We went to a DESERTED 4 lane highway around midnight to do a few runs. We did run twice from a 40mph roll. We were actually near even until 100mph. After that I pulled like CRAZY, putting a few cars until 130mph. Turned around to head home and were gonna do one more run before home, so we lined up and punched it. Only this time there was a pile of crap in the road. I ran over it first... luckily all it did to me was put about a 1" piece of MIRROR into my 275 toyo. I felt it go down and about 10 seconds later the pressure sensor started beeping. Pulled over and changed tire at midnight. AUGH!!! Looked at his car and he caught some trash and got a few deep hood scratches and one rim scratched up. Needless to say, it was not a fun night.

The reason for this post is:
Do you think the tire can be fixed? It didn't flatten immediately; air seeped out slowly. It is one thin piece of mirror about 1" long. Can it be patched? I really don't have $250 for a new 275 toyo.

Man, you've had some bad luck with your Z. First the plenum and now this. Just be glad that you didn't hit a dog or something larger than a mirror.

I think as long as the tread is punctured and not the sidewall, it can be repaired. I'm not sure I'd do any heavy racing or high speeds with a repaired tire though....

How close is it to the sidewall? If it is anywhere in the middle then I am sure it can be patched.

Patching ruins speed rating, plus that hole is bigger than any sane person in a shop would repair.

So how big is the actualy hole? If its like a 1 inch long I'd replace it, since I know you don't wana replace a destroyed rim.

i had 2 holes in 2 F1 GS-D3s in 1 weeks. both were 8k miles wear.
I ran around town to fix. No luck.
It's almost impossible to fix perfectly since its performace tires.

man that sucks

what profile are your tires? if you have 19s and you're running a 275/35 i'd take some care to examine the inside of your rim too for a dent... just to be safe

Nah, I was running 275/40/18. The piece of debris was very very narrow; when I pulled over, air was still seeping out of the tire for a good 2-3 minutes, so it was a slow leak and not a blowout thank god.
