Default 19’s versus 18’s

My first mod will be new wheels. I like the look of 19’s over 18’s but there are a lot of factors at play here.

All things being equal, quality is ultimately more important than size for me.
I ultimately want a wheel that is light yet strong for normal highway and road use.

If I went with 19’s would the quality of ride suffer?
Are there any 19’s that are lighter than the stock 18’s?
Does anyone know the weight of the Stock 18’s
Finally, do the tire pressure monitors have to be changed if you go with 19’s

Sorry for posting this guys. I scanned all 8 pages looking for this thread but I didn't find it.

If there is one already just direct me to it.

I know the answers to my questions if this was a truck we are talking. I am sure there are other issues to take into account when it comes to sports cars.

The 18's fill the wheel well nicely. The only reason why I would go with the 19's is the chance that it would look better.

I just want to know that I am not sacrificing anything by going bigger.

Thanks for your answer. When the time comes that I get these wheels, I will make certain that they come in the proper size.

I never thought VDC would be an issue. THanks again.

Unfortunately I don't know the weight of the stock 18's, I'm willing to guess 25+ lbs each.

I would definately go with 19's. It looks so good. I'm sure it'll be rough regardless if they're 18's or 19's. I'm sure if you go with high quality forged 19's the weight would be comparable to the stock 18's.

If you get 19's you may not have regrets, but if you like looks like I do, you may regret 18's...

I am the same way. Look is very important to me.

THis is the first time however that wheel weight is an issue for a vehicle of mine.

That being said I dont want to break the bank by going with a light set of 19's when I can save some money going with the same wheel in 18.

I am not too happy with a lot of the prices I am seeing. Modding an Import racer sure is a lot more expensive than hooking up a truck. LOL

19s will look better, 18s are lighter (even if you find 19s that weight exactly the same)

19's usaully have worse ride quality.
i dont know the weight of stock 18s
no, the monitors doesnt have to be changed, but you have to find a rim that fits the tire pressure sensor inodre have the monitor still working.

it depends on what you get. 19's look nice but after seeing a couple of volk setups i changed my mind to 18's
they look way too big.

it also depends on what the car is for. if its a weekend driver for fun and stuff. 19's. if you drive it daily you need functionality more so then looks 18's

I got my 19's with bridgestone s03's and i feel as if i have a better feeling ride than stock. Maybe because the S03's are softer than stock tires? Anyways, i still feel like the 19's look too small?!?!?

Funny ... S03's have some of the stiffest sidewalls of any Max Performance tire -- good for performance but lousy for ride.

The RE40s are meant for better tread life -- so perhaps they also compromise ride quality.

I don't like either tire as they are both very heavy compared to other tires in the same size (s03s are pretty much the heaviest Z-rated tire out there).

To the original question --

If you want lightweight and performance do 18 (or 17 even).

If you want looks and bligh -- 19s

If both -- then I would probably do 18 -- it looks good enough.

How about 18's up front and 19's in the rear...like what corvette does? I think that would work pretty well, as the front sidewall is way too short with the 19's in front.

another thing to consider is cost.

19 + tires which don't last as long. (usually very high profile)

18's are chaper setup in that regard.

this would look and work GREAT imo... if i could do it all over again, i'd go 18f, 19r

reason being... it ensures equal sidewall from and rear (a 245/40/18 has the same sidewall height as a 275/35/19) and visually balances the look of rims with fat lips (the bigger the lip, the smaller the rim looks... thus a 19 w/ a fat lip would look similar to an 18 from most angles)
