It IS sometimes amusing to see people act like it's a Lambo or something, that you only take out of the garage on sunny Sundays! It is just a car, but obviously those of us on the forums are enthusiasts, not just drivers.

My automec teacher in high school always said this "Its only a car"

He is big into 65-70 Mustangs and various other cars, but one day probably 15 years ago he had a nice paint job on one of his cars and he walks outside to see a scratch all the way down the side and a tricycle sitting on the ground next to it. He went inside and told his wife and thats when his wife said "Its just a car" At that moment he did not put another paint job on a car they owned again. He told me, "If its just a car then she can drive it with no paint"

Don't get me wrong though, just cause they didn't have paint he could build a damn fast car.

So basically I think he was trying to say, its just a car if thats all you make it. Do with it what you like. He also used to tell me "It's only money" when it came to wanting to do stuff to my car.

That's something you only say when your car gets F**ked-up. I said that just last week when I rubbed up against a curb in tight parking lot. I had to say that to keep myself from eating my gun.

Other phrases in the same category:

Losers say: "It's how you play the game that counts."

Ugly people say: " It's what's inside that matters."
